We are coming out to Dubai next week and will be staying in Novotel Al Barsha for a while ( at least a month). Are there any soft play places, play dates etc. that anyone knows about in the vicinity? Alternatively, what malls have good play areas for a two year old? Or any other activities that you can recommend? Thanks!

Magic planet is at Mall of the Emirates but some of it is closed for renos. There is a library upstairs called the old library that has a kids section ( but also a 250aed yearly membership fee). They do storytime on Sunday's at 11am. I would also get a taxi to marina mall ( favorite things and n joi has mini golf) , Al barsha mall (cheeky monkeys, also one at j3 mall, on Al wall rd, modhesh world is on at Dubai world trade centre ( metro ride away) or petit palais is nice at Dubai mall. A taxi to the monorail at the base of the Palm can take you to the lost chambers aquarium at Atlantis. Ibn battuta mall is also on the metro line and has a fun city and some interesting things to see inside.

Mall of emirates would be most convenient for you as it's quite nearby Novotel. There would be food , play area , library ( on level 2 .. From 12 to 4pm) and shopping all in one place. There are other play areas in barsha but you would probably need a taxi for those. Parks are quite hot at the moment otherwise there is barsha pond park. There is metro station linked from inside of mall of emirates, so if you get bored hop on and get off at another mall. With eid coming next weekend there would be lot of activities inside the malls. Unfortunately in summers months all you could do is mall hopping as it gets quite hot.
