Hi all,

This week I was surprised by my husband saying that now our family only needs a dog to be complete.
I was wondering how to adopt a small dog who is looking for a home. I´ve seen many threads here regarding adoption and rescued animals needing home, but I´m not sure how to begin. Could someone give me some tips?
The only thing for me is necessary is that the dog doesn´t grow too much, I live in an apartment and need a small one.
Thanks!
Regards

Just as a thought, many people mistakenly think only "small" dogs thrive in apartments. What matters more is the dogs temperament (which can be influenced by breed, though not always). For instance many Beagles and Jack Russel Terriers are small dogs, but are bad "apartment dogs" since they need plenty of exercise and time outdoors to be happy, while larger dogs like Collies are calmer and can actually can be quite content with more modest exercise. Many of K9's dogs are medium sized - still quite manageable, and with regular walks outdoors and good kennel training, can be a great addition to any apartment (if they have a calm temperament). I am sure the volunteers at K9 would be able to tell you which dogs would be good fits personality wise for an apartment. Apologies if you already know this and just prefer small dogs; but just so other people know =) I thought I'd share. Good luck with your adoption!

Actually I´m totally in love with one called April, but she seems huge, not sure she would adapt here in an apartment.

Hi Kristina, I´ve checked the site and I´ve only found one that really looks smal, the one with big ears! :-) Not sure if he or she found a home yet. I´ll show to my husband the pictures tonight to see if he does not change his mind. Thanks! Was it this one?? http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=225582687489855&set=a.106097469438378.3308.106075079440617&type=3&theater

Also have a look at our album you might like some of them, or K9 also have a lot of young dogs, that will not grow big. http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.106097469438378.3308.106075079440617&type=3

Check out K9 friends. They have a website and Facebook page of dogs available for adoption and will advise you. I am bit jealous actually, as would love to give one of the darlings a home, but have two very sensitive cats! Hope you find a new friend.
