Afternoon ladies.

Thank you all again for responding to my query about this confusing Thiqa business, I have been to three clinics/hospitals now here in Dubai and here is my feedback.

We live in Dubai but husband is local from Abu Dhabi where I am in the book.

In the last few weeks I have visited the American Hospital, the Safa Clinic and an IVF private clinic here in Dubai and my Thiqa card was shown, processed and I was told I did not have to pay any money as once they processed the card the government would pay.

This was a pleasant surprise but has me wondering whether this was just a lucky fluke because people did not know and in fact the next time I go I will have to pay. However, this has been my experience thus far which I promised to post.

Hope this helps!

Hi WB. I'm not sure if you still post on here but I just wanted to update you and AA82. The new Thiqa cards have Thiqa 1, 2, or 3 on them. You must have a Thiqa 1 card as your DH has an Abu Dhabi passport. This entitles you to many more benefits in Dubai than if you had a Thiqa 2 or 3 card.

Oooh, very interesting. Thanks for the update. This will come in really handy as this topic tends to resurface once a year and there is never a clear cut answer on it. Veeery interesting, actually. Abu Dhabi really takes care of their locals! That is fantastic news. Oh good I am glad to be able to return the favor of information, I am always so lost here it is nice to be able to add something :-) I hope this sheds some light on what is a very confusing situation. I have to say that my card clearly states that a co-pay for outside of Abu Dhabi is required and I even pointed this out to each receptionist who just shook their head and said it did not apply. I am not complaining but it is all so curious!
