Ladies, I know that some of you have passed in this before and I really need to know if I am over reacting.

Tomorrow is my birthday, I will be 30 Years old and I don’t feel happy about it at all. From 2 months ago I started to feel really down because of that but this week is the worse.. Yesterday I felt all day like I don’t want to work, I have even went to bed very early.. this morning I woke up really sad and on my way to work I was thinking “Today is the last day in my twenties” :( I have learned a lot in the past 10 years, I have grown up a lot and I am not that stupid little girl who came from a village and didn’t know much about city life. If I think about the good things that happened to me I can count a lot and I am proud of what I have achieved so far but I still feel sad about me reaching “30”..

I don’t know what to do.. I just feel like crying and I don’t really want to celebrate my birthday tomorrow :(

If women reach their peak in their 30s and men in their late teens - many of us should be dating young, hot teenagers then (well, at least in our fantasies :)

I'm 40 this year and I can't wait.....got my nylon flowery dress tucked into bloomers with tartan shopping bag and de rigeur arthritis copper bangle party coming together :-) Can't actually believe I've made it to this age! So....YAY for me! As Sals B (I think) said, I lost so many friends over the years - so just embrace it being here and all it entails. My 40th year - Aaaaaaahhhhhhhhh. I went to my (girls) school 25th reunion last summer and everyone was sooo surprised by me being single, childless, living 1000's of miles away from home - and to be honest, when it was put to me like that I sort of was surprised by it as well - but it's all good - cos I'm here and I'm hopefully making my own little mark on the planet :-) Your enthusiasm makes me smile. Don't ever change Shelly :)

spent my 30th birthday getting arrested at Al Ain airport. You only get the one chance, make sure you go out of your twenties in style. You can't leave us hanging SG - details please :)

Also. I can vouch that 30's is the age when a woman reaches her s*xual peak ;) i have heard that one so many times before ... and thats quite comforting to know ;)

After seeing all these nice stories, I am looking forward to my 30's.. It looks like so much exciting things will be waiting for me :) Now that "woman reach their peak in their 40's and some in their 50's and it can actually hit in the 60's", 1st time I know this and if this is true then definitely what is waiting for me is better than what has already passed :D

I know its hard to understand, until you reach it...but your 30's are actually so much better. You know yourself better. You are more confident, in touch with your sexuality, know what you want, you look good (for many women, even better than they did in the 20's)

Aww, I felt like that when I was finishing my teens and entering my 20's. Just sheer panic at having to be a grown up etc etc. Till then life was carefree and about just studying and enjoying life. I can empathise to an extent. BUT. Now its time to take stock and realise, you dont really have a choice. Better than being dead yes? Also. I can vouch that 30's is the age when a woman reaches her s*xual peak ;) SO you have that to look forward to! Not a bad incentive eh? Happy Birthday JS!

When I turned 30 my life started. I finally dumped my long term cretinous controlling freak of a boyfriend, discovered the joys of man hunting and being hunted, re-styled myself into a blomb bombshell and then met my husband. Of course it went down hill after that and this year I shall be saying goodbye to my 30's. However, it is also coming up to a time when both my children will be in school and I shall re-invent myself again!

Happy Birthday Zezdee. I didn't really enjoy all my 20's, some of it was very tuff on me but what I can simply say that I have GROWN UP a lot, I have learned so much about life, people, trust, family and lot of other things.. And do I want to go back to my early 20's? Nope not at all, I might have enjoyed it at that time but I am now a different person, wiser and more thoughtful and if the time goes back I would have changed lot of decisions that I have made in the past.. Cheeky Monkey I hope that I reach the 90’s :D Your Nana is amazing! In 2006 I was with my bf in a vacation in London and met very old couples who came from USA to spend a short vacation in UK, they told us that since the husband retired they go each year to visit a new country, we really admired them.. I only wish that I will have a loving husband who would care so much about me when I am old. I feel much better than this morning.. I was almost going to cry on my way to work :D There, js is all cheered up now...glad you got over the pity party lol...now, go and enjoy your birthday!!!!!!

Well this thread title is obnoxious. You did nor learn much in your 20's if you are so upset about just another day in your life. No day is ever promised to any of us and a birthday is a privilege many are denied every second. In light of the tsunami tragedy and knowing many in hospice groups who are suffering and just hoping to make it thru a day - many who are children - you should be thankfulnfor what you have now and excited about looking forward. Celebrate life don't be depressed about it

I know some people my age who are wasting their lives being miserable and never taking a chance. I know some 50- and 60-somethings who are the life and soul of the party and make the most of every day. Seriously, I LOVE being in my 30s. I was out with a friend just before I got pregnant and we were looking around us at a bar filled with late-teens early-20s girls, all dressed up to the nines, looking fantastic. Almost every single one of them looked nervous, out of place, not comfortable with themselves. While we envied them their super-sleek pins without a hint of cellulite, we didn't envy them that awkwardness. We both agreed we just feel so much more 'at home' with ourselves these days and that's worth a bit of cellulite or a droop here and there! Have a fabulous birthday. ETA: For my 30th we had a 'You know you're a child of the 80's when...' party. DH was a Ghostbuster and I was one of the twins from Sweet Valley High. You don't actually have to grow up when you hit 30, you know! :D <em>edited by DubaiCat on 14/03/2011</em>

Turning THIRTY?! Aw bless, you're nowt but a bairn!! I just turned 39, so am in my last year of my 30's... am I worried about turning the big FOUR O? Nah, couldn't care less, age is just a number and I plan to follow in my Nana's footsteps - she is 97 next month, still wears high heels, has champagne & nibbles parties once a month with her friends and travels to Australia on her own to visit my cousin!! If she can do that at her age, goodness, there is nothing you can't do at 30!! :D Happy Birthday!

Good to hear that everyone has made you feel better JS. have a great day tomorrow and look on it as the first of many to come - dive in deep and enjoy it as life only comes this way once. My daughter has on more than one occasion told me to "grow up, you're supposed to be my mother" - well I'm firmly stuck at 16, still enjoying life to the max and its not going to change as the years go by tho I might just have become a little more thoughtful and better dressed than I was at 16. So if being the age you are bothers you choose a year and go for it.

Glad you are feeling better! Being 30 is great and anyway you are the age that's in your head! I was also dreading my 30th birthday coz everybody was making such a big fuss of it! In the end I went travelling and found myself celebrating my birthday with total strangers and my new BF at the other end of the world, best birthday ever yet I was unemployed, homeless and divorced! And I've a great time ever since (now33) Happy birthday, enjoy your day!

it's just numbers.. i know miserable people in their 30's and fun people over 50... sounds corny but life really is what you make it..have a fun birthday and wear whatever you want (if you're not comfortable with yourself it shows, however old you are !) :D

Thank you so much ladies, you all made me feel much better, specially the ”suck it up, princess”.. You made me laugh :D and it seems that I really have to suck it up :D :D SalsB, I love your story, it is so inspiring!! As for cellulite, I do have some already but that because I was never slim :D so that has nothing to do with the age to me! I also found one white hair last month in the middle of my head and it freaked me out then! I am also so much into colors, I love to wear pink, red, orange and sometimes yellow!! I love colorful things and I love fancy jewelry. I was worried that I might not be able to wear all these and I have to change my style.. But I guess I will stay the way I am and wear whatever I feel like wearing.. I shouldn’t be worried about that.. I am going to have manicure pedicure after work and I will go buy a nice dress to wear tomorrow for dinner :) my boyfriend was insisting lately that he wants us to go to choose a “Ring” but I didn’t give him a definite answer as I was not sure of the “Ring” thing, I guess I should prepare myself for an official proposal tomorrow and be happy :D SueB, I love your husband’s surprise to you and I wish you Happy Anniversary in advance!! You all made me feel really much better, thank you!!

I would be 40 next year and surprisingly not dreading it at all. I look good, feel good and very happy where I am familywise, healthwise and careerwise. When I think of myself when I was in my 20s, all I can say is that....been there, done that!!! So really.....there is nothing to be sad and depressed about. Most important thing I would say is to be able to look back and feel proud of how far you have come ;) Happy birthday in advance! <em>edited by blimey on 14/03/2011</em>

I'm with the suck it up camp! Look at the news, be thankful and happy for every healthy day you have on this Earth. Lots of people don't get a chance to have another birthday - get out of bed and start LIVING.
