Transferring school and enrolling DS in a grade lower. Ideas on procedures?

DS is now in an Indian school in Abu Dhabi where he was enrolled in KG1 at age 3 years and 4 months. He is now in grade 3 (2015-2016) and aged 7 years and 8 months (this month of August).
We are considering two options,
either move to India, where we already have the option of enrolling him into grade 2 in a reputed school there for year 2015-2016.
OR
Moving to Dubai, where we are considering some of the good O level schools, but again enrolling him in grade 2 for the year 2015-2016.
Has anyone had any experience with school transfers where in you have enrolled you DS/DD in a lower grade or made them repeat a grade?
