Hi,
Terribly sorry to put this on the main forum but there isn't a lot of action on the maid thread..

From which point are you legally responsible for your maid? We have just employed a new maid. The application was done on July 8 and my husband paid the 2k to immigration today. Her 30 day grace period with her previous employer was up on 12 July. Now they're refusing to let her go. The family is going away for the entire Eid weekend and will not allow her to come to us until they see the pink slip. Immigration has her passport and we've got all the receipts. Can they do this? According to immigration she is now in the system under my husbands name but I want to know where we stand legally before we take further action.

Is this right?
Thank you!

The 30 days grace period doesn't "belong to" the previous employer. It's for the maid to find a new position. They should have let her go the day you started the application process. They have no right to keep her over Eid.

How does immigration still have her passport? Or it is with your PRO? Immigration don't usually hold on to passports over night... her pervious employer should have sent her over to you on the day you started the transfer process. . Or at least the day after if they were worried about her running away and not having a secure job. It doesn't make sense that she stays with them all eid if she is no longer under their sponsorship.
