In the US currently and boy is the recession showing now....worse than ever...visible all around you..things are pretty dire here. It's really dog eat dog here right now. Looking foward to job security and the social saftey nets that the UAE has to offer. Stick around, Yellow Cake. It's been unfeasibly dull here of late. :) *like*

There are no social safety nets and job security is just about unheard of.

I also agree, but I believe they will take it up to the deadline then sign a clean or slightly dirty bill to raise the debt limit. This is a manufactured crisis and political theater at it's worst Have you watched the documentary 'Inside Job" you will get all the answers to the present financial crises.

Exactly what the US expert said about the tea party lot, all noise and no idea how to govern just campaign, no long term political intelligence at all. He said the election result will be a competition as to the biggest loser as the US people are fed up to the back teeth with all this nonsense now and the result will be based on unemployment and personal situations not all this.

I think the haggling and arguing is politically motivated. As 2012 is campaign year in the US, the longer the argument goes the better for the Tea Party who is desperately trying to make a name for themselves. I am neither Republican nor Democrat, not even American. By just reading a variety of newspapers from the US, UK and France, it is obvious the US campaign will be about the debt. As much as the problem should be addressed, the way it is being done is quite chocking to say the least.Looks like a circus to me. The Tea Party is self destructing with this nonsense and they are taking the Republicans with them. 55% unfavorable in some polls now. Threatening to blow up the world is not the way to get what you want . edited by Yellow Cake on 31/07/2011

I am in total agreement, and I pray that it will bite the republicans in the proverbial come 2012. Norak, I am really curios why you switched parties, if it isn't too personal that is! Is it because of the current financial crisis or something else. Eta to fix iPad predictive text! edited by Snugs on 31/07/2011

Clearly the blame lays at the feet of the Tea Party fanatics.

Agree with below and just watched a great Sky news piece where the *US expert* said it was insanity beyond belief as to what is occuring. Obama can at the 11th hour use the 14th amendment and the resident expert said he will if necc. But really what a fiasco, just how have all these supposed academics/experts/highly educated people allowed the great economies to get into this state? Trillions and trillions of debt, for what? Headlines suggesting the serving military in Afganistan won't see their salaries, what propaganda and who is responsible for suggesting such? It's a complete disgrace the whole banking system needs addressing world wide, heads should be rolling from the top all the way down.

I agree - also former republican! They've stretched it out to create hype, meanwhile how many times did was it done by Bush or even Reagan for that matter I'd say it is a worry. It is so unfair of the Republicans to hold Obama by the **lls when he has been doing nothing but patching a sinking ship inherited from Bush since he took office. They just want this to roll over into an election year to hold it against him during campaigning. ( I used to be a Republican by the way. ) They refuse to give Obama a break at any turn no matter what he does and will stoop to the lowest level to make sure he does not get reelected. So sad. (Sorry, all my opinions.) I agree!
