I am thinking about the 27 hours travel time we will have for our Summer holidays and trying to plan ahead.

For those of you who are tech savvy - is it possible to copy some of my kids favourite DVDs onto USBs for the flight/airport time? They have laptops and it would be more convienent to carry than a case full of DVDs.

If so, how many movies would I get on a 8Gb stick? - I'm talking Disney type movies of the normal length and how would I do it?

Anyone?

Or pre-load it all before you give it to your son for his birthday. That way you can do it all in advance. It can be quite faffy if you aren't used to it. Don't forget it'll need a full charge too. (of course I'm assuming you are getting him the ipad and will have it in your possession a little before his birthday)

And don't forget, the iPad doesn't have a USB connection. Once you convert them you will need to save them into iTunes, and then sync from your computer to the iPad. Might be a bit of a rush on the day you are travelling. Definitely convert the movies in advance, so that when you first initialize and sync the iPad you can transfer them all at once.

it will be possible to view them on iPad...however, you will need to convert them first into an iTunes format. Google "handbrake" software and download that. Then use that software to rip/convert the DVD's into the relevant format and import it into iTunes. Then transfer to iPad. it is a bit of a hassle/effort to start with....but once you got the hang of it, it is quite ok. Enjoy and have great holiday !

Ah hah! I did wonder - it seemed too good to be true!! I will have to load a couple onto the USB and then pop into virgin and see if I can convince them to let me try! I don't have the Ipad yet and we are flying on his birthday!! I will need a USB converter too.

Fabulous thanks! Do I just copy them onto the USB through the computer and then access them and play? I am going to be loading them onto the USB with our desktop windows system for my son to use with his Ipad (which he will be getting for his birthday the day we fly!) and is this possible or will there be some kind of non-compatability glitch? I am a bit out of touch with Apple - the last one I had was when I worked for them in the 80's and although I loved it - everyone thought they were going out of business!!

yes you can add movies to a USB stick and watch them on a laptop or tv /dvd player with a usb connection. Movies vary in size from around 800 mbs to just over 1GB.( more to do with the quality and type of file than length of the actual movie , ones copies from Bluray take up more space.) lf you're using regular DVD rips You'd get between 7 and 8 movies on an 8GB usb stick
