Where to buy decent running shoes?

I have recently got back into running and am having similar problems as I was having before I stopped - pain in my knees. Some people have told me this may be due to the shoes I wear so wondering if there is anywhere in Dubai that can give you proper guidance on which shoes are best for you?

I hope there is somewhere as have really got back into the running and don't want to be forced to stop again.

TIA

Jackie

I am using Asics and Nike for years and not planning to change them. Always buying in outlet mall, there are best prices

For me Asics is the best running shoes! You can go to their store to check which type of shoes fits well to you.

Asics are a great brand. I've also heard good things about the fittings in a Saucony shop in Dubai Mall. I had a pair of Saucony's a few shoes back that were great. So you could try them too.
Agree about Saucony shoes, they are comfy and inexpensive) Even though I believe that one can't cut corners when it comes to buying shoes, there are quite a few relatively cheap running shoes out there. https://thecrossfitshoes.com/11-best-cheap-running-shoes/

Sorry can't remember his name but he is based down in the shoe section and is a slightly overweight Filipino guy but knew all about what shoes were best for whom and even analysed my shoes I wore into the shop to be sure his analysis was correct. Wore the shoes last night and they felt great. Not sure how long the sale is on for but it did only start yesterday so a few days yet?!

Good to know. Thanks for the feedback. I'd also like to know the guy's name please.

Oooh! Thank you for that! That is my local haunt at the moment, LOL. Very tempting and it's closer than Dubai Mall! You don't happen to remember the salesperson's name do you?

Just a quick update. Found out that there is a really good guy in Go Sport in IBN Battuta Mall and went in to see him last night. He really knew his stuff and the added bonus was that not only did they have a really great pair of shoes they were also reduced 25% in their sale - result! Ended up buying Asics and wore them last night and they feel great with so much more support around my feet. Thanks for all the really great tips. Jackie edited by Jac on 25/04/2012

I haven't personally, but I have one serious runner friend in the UK who swears by them. He did say it took a good long time to get used to them though. That said, I am not sure if they significantly improve performance or reduce the risk of injury (we, my friends and I, are all the wrong side of 35 so little injuries and niggles are unfortunately par for the course if you do lots of running). My husband did buy some but they weren't his thing so he didn't persist with them. Anyone else had any experience?

Another vote for Saucony :) The sales associates are helpful and knowledgeable at Dubai Mall--save one time I had a less than average experience there. I have two pairs, because a friend of mine who is a veteran runner told me it is best not to wear the same running shoes 2 days in a row. I have no idea if this is her personal opinion, or a common belief among runners, but mine are holding up better than when I wore the same over and over again. I always have two pairs on the go - one wearing in and one wearing out, if that makes sense. Also, once my running shoes have gone too 'flat' for running, I find they are still fine for gym work/classes for a while, so I get a little more wear out them that way.

Also recommend Saucony as they have different shoes for different feet - see their website for the shoe advisor. Not sure how much of a range they have here as we tend to buy in the US.

[quote'> I previously used to run in Brooks but now I'm also a Saucony convert! That's interesting. I always thought Brooks were the ultimate runners shoe?! I've not seen Brooks here by the way. This thread is making me think about getting another pair of Saucony's, LOL. On the suggestion of New Balance - I had a pair of NB Cross Trainers recently. They were excellent, but I don't know where you would go to get a good fitting for them over here.

I converted from Asics to Saucony after being persuaded to try a pair whilst I was training for the London marathon. I now only run in Sauconys and the shop in Dubai Mall is great - they have a treadmill so you have a quick run in the different styles etc. It is on the top floor near Galeries Lafayette. If I were you, I would try a pair of Asics and a pair of Sauconys and alternate them to see which work best for you. I over-pronate a little and I find the cushioning of the Sauconys so much better for me. Depending on your running style, it might be worth looking at New Balance, as some of my runner friends swear by those, but I have never tried them. Good luck! I previously used to run in Brooks but now I'm also a Saucony convert!

Definately Asics are the best brand, My husband has the same issue with his joints and Asics have proven to be the best for those suffering this issue. They are specially designed to absorb the shock produced from running on harder surfaces outdoors.

I had heard that they are good shoes and am glad to find somewhere that looks at and understands your feet too. Will head to MOE tomorrow. Thanks

At the Asics shop they look at your feet and the way you walk and recommend which type of shoes are best for you, which nobody did for me at the general sports shops or at Adidas/Nike/Reebok etc. I went to the Dubai Mall branch and I think there is a branch at MoE too.
