Why is my cat sleeping in the litter box??

I have 2 brat cats who fight all the time and have a tolerate each other with the once in a while play chasing relationship. Cat no. 1 has a bad habit of peeing on the floor, something I have posted here before, and she did it again couple of weeks ago. Nothing to do with UTI or anything, just her not happy. She will pee outside her box and the last time she did it, the 2 brats were fighting A LOT!! No fur flying or anything but definitely not playing. Cat no. 2 is the younger more playful and annoying cat.

I have 3 boxes all in the laundry room so finally decided to put one extra covered tray in the study. Took Cat No. 1 to that box put her there. She used it once in the past 2 weeks. But no more peeing on the floor after some cat peeing proof measures.

But Cat no 1 now has taken to sitting there and sleeping there. What's that all about????? She just sits there, sleeps there, is in fact there now, as I am just next to her!!!

Puzzled????

well, instead of putting another litter 'bed'in the laundry room, you could try a covered igloo for cat 1. he might like that quite nicely as the other cat cannot tease him while he is in his igloo :)...or...you could take the door off his cat carrier, put soft bedding in there and cover it with a towel but leave a bit at the bottom so he can go in :)...works like a charm with all my stray s and might help with his insecurity ;)....

Thanks ladies! Hm...I give up with them brats. We have had little kitty for over a year now and they are still trying to sort out their hierarchy issues therefore the fighting. Sigh....I think this is it, this is their relationship so will try and make Cat no. 1 feel as secure as possible cause Cat no. 2 is happy enough!! IF I put another box I fear DH will either throw me out or the cats!! That means we will have 3 trays in the laundry room and '2' in the study. Aaaaargh cats! Love them so much but they are such brats sometimes. And....we are leaving Dubai with them brats in tow of course but will post again about relocating cats and flying with them....etc etc

no leave her in her box....you could try wuffles idea though, put another box in there so she can use one and sleep in the other? HOPEFULLY the cat #2 will not muscle in..but..being younger....you might also try puytting her food in there, away from the box of course so she has everything of hers with her :)

Oops why did I post twice?? Wuffles - she is not a street cat, she is a half persian actually very prissy, so sleeping in the box is ???? to me although the box is clean i.e. only she has used it once before.

Well that explains it. She doesn't like cat no. 2 so definitely she feels she gets more peace and quiet in the box. Should I take her out of the box. She is snoring away in it now while cat no. 2 is playing by herself outside in the living room!!

Just a thought-is she a street cat? We had one who would roll for ever in her clean litter box-think she used it like sand to clean her fur? Maybe you could give her one of those huge washing bowls filled with sand to sleep in so she knows it is different from the litter box-mine loved her sand box and never mistook it for a litter box. edited by wuffles on 06/04/2011
