FB scrabblers will know that there is a word of the day and today's made me giggle...

Gardyloo - The Act of throwing Slops from a window

Sadly not something I'm going to be able to drop into conversation on a regular basis but amusing nonetheless lol...

It's definitely 'gardyloo' in Scotland; can't see that it would be a new word in scrabble (of any nationality) - and FB scrabble lets you use Scottish slang, Aussie abbreviations ('arvo' etc) as well as americanisms, so it obviously has a fairly international dictionary

FB Scrabble is the US version. This word must be new because the actual expression is French "gardez l'eau" which means watch out for the water....in olden times when there was no sewage system or drains in houses, waste water was thrown from upstairs windows into the street below, and to warn the passersby before throwing people would shout "gardez l'eau" So why can't the U.S and Canada play it ?? It's also used in Scotland as a warning cry before throwing slops from the window (I'm guessing it's not in current usage lolol)
