Some friends have just arrived and are looking for lots of relaxing beach time. We can take them and lend them the parasols and beach stuff, so which free/cheap-ish beach would you recommend for them, over the "new" side of town? And if they were to feel extravagant one day, which of the hotels offers the best beach deal, do you think? We have suggested Bab Al Shams, but they'd prefer to be by the sea.
Thanks for any ideas!

I find Jumeirah Beach Park great for visitors. Though not necs females alone or on a public holidays. Other than that, thumbs up from me.

as Dubaistar said, beach opposite JBR is free, but keep in mind there are no showers, change rooms and toilets there (although there is a toilet near Starbucks). Otherwise, next to Jumeirah beach hotel, same thing - free. Jumeirah beach park is nice too, has park as well as the beach with change rooms & etc. If you want to go for hotel, IMO Le Meridien is quite nice or Madinat Jumeirah or Ritz Carlton, not sure on prices of beach pass though.

TimeOut last week had an article on the free beaches in Dubai. The one in JBR is free and OK if you're bringing your own beachmats, parasols and coolbox. It's between the Royal Meridien and Ritz Carlton. It's where the banana boats, parasailing stall, etc. are if they are feeling energetic :)

Apparently the Sheraton at the end of the Walk is reasonably priced. They've got some offers at the moment for treatments which include full beach access for the day. A booklet was delivered a few days ago but unfortunately I've already binned it but maybe someone has kept it and could let you have some details.
