I am nearing my due date but been told that cervix is still hard and I am defo not open yet. I have been having acupuncture now for 3 weeks, walking everyday, doing squats, eating pineapple, drinking raspberry leaf tea. I am doing everything I was recommended to do. but no results. This is my 2nd baby and I am so worried of being induced and having C-section.
Anyone here had induction of labour without ending up with C-section?
Also my doc just revealed she is not here for 1 day that right after my due date - WTH??
I need some words of wisdom to calm myself down.

You could always ask your doctor to do a sweep. I was 39 weeks and no sign of movement. Dr did a sweep and next day I went into labour. Worth a try. I think your cervix needs to be softening though for a sweep? Hoping the acupresure and meditation work or you barboram. But just remember what ever the case maybe, a healthy bubba is the most preious thing and how he/she comes into the world is what it is / will be.

Soooo, I saw do it yourself acupresure on youtube, tried the spots last night, together with meditation and going to a professional reflexology tomorrow. Will report if anything is happening.

I'm all of 40 weeks today and my cervix hasn't softened... and neither has the baby's head engaged... my first baby was a week late as well and due to the baby being in distress the docs had to induce and it did end up in a c-section... this time round I'm hoping for a VBAC... but up until now, like you, I've tried everything to naturally induce labour... from evening primrose oil capsules to raspberry leaf tea, to even eating spicy food and walking/squatting etc... even to the extent of nipple stimulation!!! my doc even suggested lots of s**!! it seems that prostaglandins in semen actually induce labor in a full-term or past-due pregnancy, since the gel used to "ripen" the cervix and induce labor also contains prostaglandins!! so perhaps worth a shot! stay positive... and remember the baby can't stay in there forever! :) he/she will come out soon enough... :)

Hi Barboram, you are almost there :) I was told by my ob-gyn that babies number 2 usually engage later in time. My number 2 engaged about week 40! and things were not moving until I had a sweep done after 41+ - went to labour within 24h hours :) BTW my ob-gyn did not make it to delivery room - I had only DH and two FAB midwives with me. It was great - I had no complications though. Happy birthing!

With first baby, my cervix was not ripe even with 41+3 days. Midwife was baffled how this could be possible. Baby was high up and not showing any signs of engaging. Then on the day I turned 42 weeks I went to hospital, got couple of times gel applied to the cervix to induce. Nothing else, just some innocent gel :). Which is different from inducing shots at least to my knowledge. Contractions started & baby was born within 4 hours after first contraction. Intense but fully natural and pain relief free. Yes, its possible and yes you have some time to "ripe" :) Just wait and see, each birth is unique

Aaaaaaawwwwwwwwwwww. You ladies are so nice. I was thinking that it is my mind, thinking too much about things that I cant really influence. I have to trust my body and not doubt it. Will try and visualize my little baby. I can do this! Thank you so much!

I agree with Green-ish not to worry about your OB being there as they usually leave most of the work up to the nurses and midwives anyway. Also, try to put aside worries in general as that may affect your body. Try some meditation and chanting/visualizing "Gentle Birth". Imagine your cervix softening and working as one to push your baby into the world. Imagine your cervix being soft like blue ribbons blowing in the wind...[i'>okay I've been reading too much hypnobirthing lately[/i'>...anyway good luck! It's going to be me trying not to worry at the end of March :) I love it! Lol...and I completely agree that some of the body's preparation for birth has to do with our mindset and stress levels. barboram - try and do something to relax yourself. We all fixate on THE BIRTH towards the end of the pregnancy. Perhaps take some time to really relax, enjoy special time with your first child, go for relaxed walks somewhere beautiful, sit down and write your hopes and dreams for this baby...do whatever you can to calm yourself so you can let your body relax and get on with birthing your precious baby.

First of all...take a deep breath. :) In almost all cases, the baby will come when the baby and your body are ready. Unless there are any indications of ill health, you have at least another two weeks to go into a natural labour without complications. I was induced on my due date for my second baby (due to high BP) and I managed a (very intense) delivery without any indication for a CS. Try not to worry about whether your OB will be there or not. No matter where you are delivering, there will be excellent medical staff on hand.
