I know there are so many threads but some vary...anyone delivered recently with NICU prices per day? And will some Insurances cover or do none because it's a Government hospital? Just had some bad news and may have to go this route...need all info if someone is willing to tell me again where to start and all the costs ie 5000aed to register, plus c-section costs how much plus NICU costs.....
Sorry going to reread all threads in bed tonight and look myself too, thank you :)

With Daman, I know that Al Wasl is a "non provider" so they only cover 80% of costs.

Thanks for posting all of that, Tru Blu and NinaSimone. as you say, it's very useful for women in your situation. Out of interest... do Daman and ADNIC cover care received at AW?

NinaSimone that is great information for Ladies who find themselves in such a situation. Pingu, I would definitely phone ADNIC. Daman cover maternity after a 6 month waiting period (or in my case, they waivered it because I had previous maternity cover right up until the day that I switched insurer). It cost a whopping 50,000 but that was to cover the family (4 of us) and it is their regional cover so very good. HTH

Yes, the cover is for only YOU for one year. However it will cover EVERYTHING, I mean absolutely EVERYTHING for the baby whilst you are still in hospital. Which as you said is only a few days. However, once you leave the hospital, you will need to pay for ALL baby expenses but these can be reimbursed once the baby gets onto your insurance policy. The normal cost for your baby to be insured with ADNIC is AED 2,700 for the year. However, if the baby has been in NCIU, had an operation or complications or needs more care in the coming year, ADNIC will assess this and the cost may go up. However it's never going to be anything like AED 300,000! ADNIC are extremely helpful (very unlike the UAE general customer service). Call their free toll number on 800 8040. Any person you talk to is very knowledgeable and will answer all your questions. As mentioned, I am also happy to answer any questions. I am one of those freaky people who like to research, research, research! So I have done the leg work, called ADNIC 400 times with new questions every time before buying the policy. You could say I'm now an ADNIC expert as well!! A couple of extra points about ADNIC: * You will only be covered 100% of consultations with your doctor as well as hosptial if you use a clinic and hopsital in their network. Once you inquire about a policy, they will send you a list of network hospitals, clinics, dental, pharmcies etc all around UAE including many in Dubai. I'm with Medcare and they are included on the policy. I see my doc in Medcare Jumeirah Clinic which isn't covered, however the Mirdiff clinic is covered. I called ADNIC about this and they said they hadn't updated their list of networks but the Jumeirah clinic is now covered. So if you find a hopsital or clinic not on their list, just ring and ask. * ADNIC will not cover individuals. You HAVE to insure the whole family (meaning, you need to include your husband on the policy). My husband already has insurance thru his company, and it covers me, but not for maternity. A normal person (someone not pregnant) to get covered is AED approx 4,500 (give or take AED 100). Therefore my husband was covered for AED 4,500. A pregnant person is then charged 6 times this amount - approx AED 27,000. Totalling AED 31,000 for both of you for one year. * A friend has just told me that ADNIC has put their prices up. Therefore, if you are pregnant, you now have to pay 6 times the regular health insurance price. Meaning, it is now AED 31,000 to be covered for one year including your husband. when we purchased it a few weeks ago, it was only 5 times the amount. This doesn't cover dental. * My husband has asked his company to cancel his health insurance and they have kindly said they will give us the rebate, which is nice. Hopefully thats a AED 2,000 approx return (anything is better than nothing). * The only other out-of-pocket expense is AED 35 each time you visit your doctor. Standard fee per visit. * Pharmcies will cover 100% of medicines thru ADNIC also. Let me know if you have any further questions.

This sounds brilliant thank you! Just one thing you say cover for the baby while you are in the hospital? Which is only a few days? After that time you take another insurance policy for the baby to be covered when it's a few days old and for that year? Is that right? Do you know how much that is per year? Just sorting all this out...thank you. If you have can you padd me details of the person who helped you? Thanks again :)

Hi Pingu I got the insurance at 34 weeks. You can buy the insurance at any week of pregnancy, they except you right up to the birth. I am definitely happy I got the insurance. I have now luckily made it to nearly 38 weeks, but you can never be sure so I was happy we spent the outrageous AED 27,000 than not been covered. When we were told our baby might be premature and deliver (28 weeks), I didn't want the worry of having a really premature baby and on top of that, the worry of how much every day is costing us. Bear in mind, the NCIU cost is just the incubator I think. It doesn't include any operations the baby might need, additional blood tests etc. I have also heard scary stories about AED 300,000+ for births. AED 27,000 for FULL 100% cover for you and the baby (whilst you are still in hosptial), as well as cover for YOU for 1 year, is better than chancing it I say. Good luck. Let me know if you have any further questions, happy to help.

It's very scary stuff :( The chances of mine being in NICU is I think very high unfortunately so I don't want to take any chances... NinaSimone - thanks for your info. This is very interesteing, do you know up till when they will accept a pregnant woman ie how many weeks (how far along she is)? Also Tru Blu if I may ask how much was yours with Daman?

I just got this info yesterday from Al Wasl: NICU Level 1 care Dhs. 2200, Level 2 care Dhs. 2800, Level 3 care Dhs. 3900 per day. Caesarean Delivery Package/Shared Room Dhs. 10000. I am pregnant and not covered by insurance, I'm keeping my fingers crossed that everything goes smoothly! I have a friend that had her baby at 27 weeks and their bill was Dhs. 300 000! Luckily covered by insurance! Going home to have the baby is not an option for me. Don't know what else to do but just stay positive and hope for the best. I've had 2 children already, the first was c-section, the second was in NICU for 3 days.

Hi Pingu I am due to deliver a baby in 1 week. I lost my job 2 months ago when my doctor told me I might be having a premature baby. Along with my job loss, I also lost my maternity cover (husband's insurance doesn't cover medical). Anyway we have just paid AED 27,000 and gone with ADNIC. Do a search on ADNIC (Abu Dhabi National Insurance Company). They have an office on SZR. ADNIC, although more expensive, are the only insurer that covers women who are already pregnant (no waiting period). They cover 100% of baby costs, as long as you are still in hospital as well. Once you leave hospital, you will need to pay for baby costs but once you join baby up to ADNIC once born, they will reimburse the costs. ADNIC cover absolutely everything along as you use one of their network hospitals (have most Dubai hospitals on their network). Only thing they don't cover is cost of epidural for natural birth - approx 2,000. As mentioned, do a search on ADNIC and you will get recent threads with heaps of info. Hope this helps and good luck.

Hi Pingu, I'm sorry for your bad news. Have you considered going back home to deliver? I also had some very bad news so am going back home at 24 weeks to deliver there. Not only is it cheaper, I know I'll be in very safe hands. I was so overwhelmed when I got the costs of NICU. Still dont know if our medical will cover so it's a very scary thought. Just know you are not alone. x

Hi thanks for posting this. I'm delivering at AW too, partly as I had 2 vg experiences previously and partly for the NICU. Looks like it's catching up with elsewhere now pricewise. Apparently it's still the best NICU in town though so I'm going to stay there. Just hope I don't deliver prematurely, will keep my legs crossed! Sounds like you did the right thing changing your insurance, Tru Blu. Wishing you all safe and happy deliveries, especially those of you having twins. Hi Tru Blu, Thanks for that... Well there us a difference with the prices yea but it's not huge!! Nervous our insurance won't cover us long story :( That's 5-7k per day per baby right? As I am having 2 as well! I just don't know which route to go! Need to make decisions soon :( Also, who can afford to pay money like that? For instance say 5k a day at Al Wasl x 2 babies is 300 000aed a month. How does one afford that? About to cry...... :( :( edited by Pingu on 07/09/2011

Hi Pingu, You could search my recent threads, I made a post about Al Wasl roughly 2 months ago. The prices for NICU are about 3000 - 5000 per day (as opposed to 5000-7000 at City and American) Most insurance companies will cover you for 80% but you may have a limit. Al wasl would be a non-network provider for most (if not all) insurance companies, hence the 20% gap. I have had an awful time with Mednet insurance company the last few months (found out I was only covered for 3500 aed maternity! yeah, like that would get me anywhere. And they told me that the babies (I am expecting twins) would not be covered for the first 14 days!!!!!! Anyway, long story short, Daman let us switch to their top cover at a HUGE cost. But at least we are properly covered now. Let me know if you need a great contact for Al Wasl hospital. edited by Tru Blu on 07/09/2011
