@ fullofdreams- I suggest you stop thinking at the labour itself too much; you will be fine, just think that you will soon see your baby and you will be able to hold him/her in your arms. I was terrified that I will not be able to manage the pain, the labour, etc. but at the hospital the doctor, the midwife, the nurses were very supportive and now I can say that birth was nothing from what I imagined ;)

Emanuala, thanks for sharing. Sounds like you had a wonderful experience at City, I am sure it will be fine for me. @ fullofdreams, dont stress about your labour, you are going to do great, just trust yourself! Vit K I made a typo before, can be injected or taken orally, I thought of the LO stress of coming out to this world is really quite an journey so decided that I would prefer if they are not injected or poked or probed unnecessarily. I remember with my first one, totally freaking out when they gave her injections, I cried more than them. So do you research and follow your instinct and talk to as many moms as you can. Good luck>xx

Hello there, I delivered at City Hospital abt. 2 months back and it was great. Everything exceeded my expectations. I went in for normal delivery but the baby had other plans so I had an emergency C-section. Did not feel any pain, the next day I got out from bed and had a shower, the scar healed up quickly and very nice. They allowed my husband to be in the delivery room while doing the C section and they gave me the baby right away (tjey just cleaned her little) and we were allowed to spend time together skin to skin. In fact we were both taken together to the room. I had my baby with me the whole time in the room. We had visits from the neonatologist, pediatrician, etc. I had problems with breasfeeding (very little milk) but they provided top up formula for the baby. The nurses gave her bath, showed me how to swaddle, how to breastfeed, etc... They gave her some vaccines (vit. K and some others, but asked me first if that was ok with me). My experience there was wonderful so based on that I would recomend this hospital to anyone. Good Luck!!

Hi Barboram I heard another awful story from medcare and from that story I did not even consider that hospital I should not say on here but it enough to make you cry. Like most places everyone has good and mad things to say about hospitals. I am pleased everything was good in the end. You may think I sound really silly but I had not heard about Vit D so googled it. How do you learn about all these things its all so scary and it does worry me that I might miss something I should know :(

Sounds like you've asked your doctor a lot of great questions. :) Regarding the Vit D I would make sure that they have that in stock before you deliver. I would double check with your doctor then when you arrive at the hospital. I would also write all of your birth preferences down covering all stages of labour and then take them to your doctor before you go into labour. Have him/her look them over and sign them and then add them into your notes. Then make copies of those signed ones and take them with you on the day. Just a way to cover all your bases. But with the oral Vit k they don't always have that on hand so just double check that they will have it for you when you will want it.

Thank you GattaMatta. @fullofdreams i feel I am more prepared for the 2nd birth than my first. I have delivered in Medcare 3 yrs ago and looking back I know they have mismanaged me, had to be cut twice (normal birth), sown me up bad, next day after delivery my ex-ob-gyn said I had blood clot and went in without any anesthesia, it was the most painful experience in my life, far exceeding the labour pains. Ahhhh I just hate it and I am so thankful for my beautiful child but wouldnt go back there for anything. now my doctor is nice, she listens to me, spends time with me, cares for me.... So my main questions to her were: Do you do episiotomy frequently?, do not cut the cord from placenta to baby until it stops pulsating (important as in placenta there is a lot of blood that belongs to baby and docs clamped the cord and cut it almost right away which they should not, do research). Ask her to give you baby right away after birth, unless there is something wrong, you should have the bonding time with your baby. I have asked my baby to be given to me with a blanket right on my chest so that baby can start looking for breast or just generally be with you. They can clean and weight later on. Ask the doctor what he/she will be doing during labour for you? If you do not want any drugs etc. Watch u-tube on natural labour, borrow books, go see midwifes and discuss. I know many friends whom have natural labour and were so happy. Good luck and we may see each other in the hospital>;)

Some things I am going to write are a repetition of previous threads but summarizing everything here is quicker I think. After asking very similar questions in fact, I ended up adding a note signed by my husband and me in the pregnancy booklet with our requests (no vaccinations yet, breastfeeding not possible, etc.) with the medical reasons for our concerns (in my case, severe autoimmune diseases running in my family and me being on immunosuppressants during the whole pregnancy). I repeated everything to anyone who entered the room before the c-section. For the breastfeeding no issue at all, of course, for the vaccinations the paediatrician explained to us the results of the most recent researches implying that he recomended vaccinations, but never making me feel guilty or stupid or ignorant or pushed in any direction whatsoever. I felt very well cared for and we both learnt a lot from the nurses who were really willing to teach us. Just ask and they will show you everything. So my experience with the staff there has been great (the ob/gyns were from an external practice but I hear good things about City doctors as well).

Hello, I am going to have my delivery in City Hospital early next year. I wanted to ask you how did it go for you? This is my 2nd baby, so I have a specific list of things I would like and would not like. I have talked it over with my doctor whom I was so pleased, agreed to almost everything. How is the baby care in City Hospital. Has anybody opted for VIT K orally for the baby? I also don't want to vaccinate my child right away and want to wait till a little later, anyone had a problem with that?
