He's been very unsettled all day with a runny tummy also. Gave it to him a week ago for a day - had same reaction...anyone else experienced this? He's 2mnths.

Thx ladies - I do feel yes, it is the witching hr and today I took him out for a long walk by the marina - no tantrums! Seems to be today's cure at least! i did the same thing with ds :) even when it wasn't that cold outside, in july. he developed it as a habit and now starts being fussy or screams letting me know that its time to head out or down to the play area. even for dinner he starts becoming fussy and as soon as looks at his utensils he waits for few min for the food to be served :D

Our doc told us that it is common all over the world for babies to have a witching hour sometime between 4-11pm. And many studies have been done but nothing conclusive; some say just over tired from stimulation during the day, some say a build up of gas from the day, some say just practising using the ol' lungs!! Some say try lights off and quiet, some say try music on quite a bit louder, some say rock on his tummy, some say try feeding as babies can also cluster feed at this hour (just really super hungry and want to eat eat eat. A lot of what people used to think is colic in the evenings is actually cluster feeding and letting them eat until content is best, and no worries- they won't overeat). We went through the same thing every night at 7pm. Infacol seemed to help, swaddling seemed to help, being close to mom in the sling seemed to help, baths seemed to help...!!! Every day we thought we figured out THE trick but in the end it just takes patience, soothing, and more patience. Now he is sort of fussy around this time but no screaming like before. And the baths seem to still be the calmest hour of his evening. You could try watching your diet, as I did the same thing and stopped lactose, only to be told that that's actually quite a rare intolerance in babies... most likely it's just a good old fashioned witching hour. edited by moose on 05/11/2012

growth spurt? you might need to feed a bit more often to up your supply, or did he just have the rotoviris vaccine, that could explain the upset tummy.

i tried colicaid, infacol, gripe water as ds suddenly developed mild case of colic when he was 8 weeks old. i only gave gripe water 1-2 times and stopped as it was too sweet. even the other drops could not help. so i stopped everything. controlled my diet eating light and less gaseous foods and made him sleep elevated. hang in there suddenly one day after turning 6 month old all of this disappeared. now a days he has started spitting again particulalry after 7 pm but it could be due to cold or as i have started his solids. i am not that bothered now. bbaies take quite some time as their stomach are too tender. don't bounce him atleast 30 min after feed. and do check the sterilisation, might be maid is making a mistake somewhere. these things are too tricky. where do you keep your bottle feed? if in refrigerator don't keep in the door but at the back near the light .if in the freezer see if its thawed properly. milk develops bacteria too fast if not handled properly. i stopped expressing but then ds stopped taking bottle once my mother went back :) edited by angel joy on 04/11/2012

You're right it's not vit D cos he's just as unsettled today. But only usually after the 3pm feed? Any ideas? 4-6ish he's just so miserable recently :( he's EBF and occasionally bottle fed from pumped milk. Will keep closer eye on food - I'm using a steriliser machine...well my maid does.... Could it be done wrongly? Anyone tried infacol? He can't use gripe water...

have been giving pedia vit past 6 months. no reaction at all. have you checked for other things? like your food (i know firts thing we think of), or formula if you are giving, might be not proper sterilisation or anything else you can of? if you have some gripe water you can try that or just massage his tummy with very light fingers with mustard oil (told by my doc) in clockwise direction.another thing is to apply warm cotton cloth like hot pack. keep for few seconds then apply again. be careful about their sensitive skin.try putting him on his tummy over you. Hope he gets soothed :( i know how bad it is to see them in pain. mine currently has cold so gets cranky sometimes. runny tummy is fine at this age. but be sure that its not too much. have you talked to your doc? edited by angel joy on 03/11/2012 edited by angel joy on 03/11/2012
