its up to you if you do all the jabs, but in this part of the world you really should have the BCG, friends of mine who worked at the embassy were told they couldnt come and work here if the kids didnt have it etc. This is bad news. When I was a child my grandfather, who was "the" paediatric tisiologist in Italy at a time in which tbc was a problem there, didn't have me and my sister have it, for several reasons, partly connected with safety, partly with the real efficacy of the specific vaccine, partly with the very low probability of contracting the disease in the environment we lived in. Same for polio and another one I do not remember. Should I tell my husband to check with his employer or just pretend I did not read your post? :-) edited by GattaMatta on 17/10/2011 its really down to you. with all the different nationalities that live here its why its given at birth. you dont have to prove any of the vaccinations that you have had. but at the end of the day its like going on a holiday to any foreign country you have to way up the pros and cons of taking any medicines etc.

Had my 4th baby in Dubai and refused the BCG. Was totally fine, no one ever said anything about it. Not at the hospital, not when getting her birth certificate, not when applying for her visa, not at school. same here - both of mine have not had BCG...no issues anywhere- was never asked Thanks!

I have read about a huge list of mandatory vaccinations here, justified by the fact that this actually is a third world country "en travesti". What I do not understand is if it is possible for expat parents to responsibly choose to skip or postpone some or all of them, without incurring in legal problems or limiting future access to school. I am not asking for opinions about the opportunity of vaccinations, just about the legal aspects, considering also that hopefully by the time the baby will reach school age we might be elsewhere. Thanks. its up to you if you do all the jabs, but in this part of the world you really should have the BCG, friends of mine who worked at the embassy were told they couldnt come and work here if the kids didnt have it etc.

nope, no legal aspects... I actually really don't think they care that much - we're all temporary residents anyway. My two are following the UK vaccination programme and their nursery only asked for official records of them, which i provided and they're more than happy with them. The legality is something I wonder about too, but more in terms of getting every child into school... if you chose to, I'm sure you could *not* send your child to school and absolutely no-one official would chase you for it. As usual, thank you :-)
