Then I would just wait it out I guess. No point making any changes at this point. Hang in there... I know its really hard. But hopefully it'll all be better soon. Good luck and loads of positive vibes.

Hey Susan I would love to try gaviscon but the problem is that I think u can't take gaviscon wiith AR milk as it too thickens the milk and currently DS is on novolac AR. Either we change the milk and use gaviscon or else stick to this combo for another week edited by Enigma1979 on 17/01/2012

Ok so it's been over a week and Zantac and motilium haven't worked at alll , really need help please tell me of something that really worked for your LOs silent reflux :( Enigma. I know the feeling. Not much you can do except wait it out. What really did help us quite briefly, in the early days, was the infant gaviscon. It seemed to soothe her and the crying and some of the squirming stopped, but not a lot of the other symptoms. If the medicines don't kick in in a couple of weeks, just go back to Dr Ahmed and ask him to change them. There are other medicines out there and he did say it was a little bit of trial and error on the exact combo and the dosage to make it work for each baby. They obviously err on the side of caution. He actually told us about the 2 week mark. For us it started to show some signs of working just after 2 weeks. I couldn't see it at first but he pointed out some improvements to me and that helped. Let me know if you want the gaviscon, the offer is still open.

Thanx guys but another question is what milks were ur little ones on for the silent reflux We tried about seven different brands of formula as it was suspected she had cow's milk protein intolerance. We started with SMA Gold, tried S26 regular, Aptamil, Aptamil Comfort, Neocate and other brands I can't recall and settled with S26HA which she is very happy taking.

Were consulting doctor rais as well but he suggested novolac AR for us and along with that Zantac and motilium but since gaviscon is nott available in UAE therefore he hasn't given that to us . Yeah just give it a shot then. I really trust Dr. A. He's been great for my baby girl. So you're in good hands. If you do need Gaviscon though, I have some sachets from when we used it and don't need them anymore. Plus I ordered it online at Chemistsdirect who ship here. Got here in about 10 days with no issues. So that is an option.

Thanx guys but another question is what milks were ur little ones on for the silent reflux We stayed on SMA first infant milk (which we got to after trying a few brands) because the Gaviscon did the job of thickening up the feeds to prevent regurgitation. Tried Aptamil AR once or twice but she didn't take to it well, so I stopped. Our paed Dr Syed Rais Ahmed said that in the absence of Gaviscon, the AR milk could do the job but seemed more inclined towards Gaviscon. We got that anyway so stuck with it.

Hi enigma. Our little girl had reflux too. It was silent reflux. What our doctor said was that its infant reflux - quite common and generally goes away between 4 and 6 months. The medication is needed to make them more comfortable in this case rather than cure the condition. We used a combination of Zantac, Motillium and infant Gaviscon and it worked like magic for us. She was diagnosed at 4 and a half weeks or so and we started then. It took a while to kick in fully - nearly a month actually. But it did work. We started weaning her off it at 4 months and now she is completely off. What does happen now is a lot of throwing up, but messy as it is, I'll take that over the squirming, grunting and general misery of the first couple of months :( I guess given the right diagnosis and the right dose they do work great. So good luck!

Hi Enigma Sorry to hear your LO has silent reflux - know exactly what you are going through but it does get better. My DD was diagnosed at 3 weeks with severe silent reflux and initially prescribed Motillium and Zantac. By week 6 she was hospitalised and observed for 48 hours. She was back in hospital a week later this time for 72 hours and more tests (all external). It wasn't until week 10 and lots of discussions with her doc that we moved her onto Losec and it was like a miracle happening before our eyes. For the first time in her short life, DD actually smiled after eating. She is now 6 and a half months old and still on M, Z and Losec. We are due to commence weaning her off the M and Z soon but I suspect she'll stay on the Losec a bit longer. If you want to do some reading about this, Allison Scott Wright has a good book called the Sensational Baby Sleep plan and she devotes a whole chapter to the care of babies with reflux and explains how various medications work. She also gives tips on how to ease a LO's discomfort. She's not a medical professional but her advice is based on years of working with reflux babies and certainly helped us out. In short, M and Z alone did not work for us. If you don't see improvements within two to three weeks, I would ask for a re-assessment and possibly something stronger. Take care

My DS had SEVERE reflux, diagnosed at hospital as he was having so much trouble. It took a good two weeks to start working but the zantac/motilium combo turned our lives around. I had him on zantac for about 7 months and zantac/motilium until he started solids. Dr had us start solids early (4 mo, didn't work out the greatest for us) in order to start weaning him of motilium. It was a pain but it helped us have a normal life and stopped DS from having milk making him horribly uncomfortable and burning him. He was diagnosed around 4 weeks.
