Thanks ladies. You raise a very valid point australiajudy.
I guess I have some investigative work to do to see what our status really is. I wouldn't mind claiming it if we can. Our company insurance isn't covering maternity so that money could certainly go towards covering that cost!
If you're a non resident you're not eligible.
Much better for the vast majority to be non-resident and avoid paying tax then be eligible for the bonus!
Hi,
Thanks for taking the time to respond. Appreciated much. I actually didn't even bother to consider the baby bonus because I just assumed being out of the country we would not be eligible. But talking to a friend back home yesterday, she told me to look into it because her friends sister who is in Doha applied for it and got it.
I wasnt aware they were stopping it completely? I know the amount has reduced from $5000 to $3000.
I just thought it would be nice to get something back from the Government instead of always having to give! Will tell hubby to give it a shot! :D
Hi, If you are no longer residents for tax purposes then you cannot get the baby bonus, hubby looked into it for us and no such luck. If you are still 'residents' and have not been taken of the voting registry ect then you could give it a crack. I was also told recently by FIL they are going to stop doing it shortly. Not exaclty sure when though......HTH
I was just wondering if we are entitled/eligible to claim for the baby bonus whilst overseas? Does anyone have any experience/information regarding this?
