The maxi cosi opal has a good safety rating and is convertible from birth till 3 years. It's rear facing and then forward facing. But you can't attach it to your stroller, it stays permanently in the car and there is no need to buy a base. A car seat base is for locking the car seat in the car so you don't have to put the seat belt around the car seat each time you drive. You just place the car seat into the base and drive off. If you don't have a base, every time you get in the car you have to attach the seat belt. Or leave the car seat in the car and lift baby out of the car seat each time. Not ideal if baby has fallen asleep.

You can use from new born to 3 -4 years, it can be used as a normal stiller for the older kids. Can lie 95-97% flat baby. You are welcome to come around and I can show you how it works. My number is on the advert. :) I live in meadows 9

Have a look at the new Quinny Zapp Xtra. We just got that coz it met all the criteria we were looking for- forward and backward facing, 3 step recline, one of the lightest strollers in the market + the maxi cosi car seat fits into it. A brand new one costs around 1200. You get all the extra accessories separately. The base we're planning to get is a Family Fix. It can be used for the 1st 4 years. All the best!

Zippy still available (with car seat that you can use own own in car or with the base that I have). Somebody told me the other day that I don't need to buy the thing you put in the car and the you attach the seat to it as apparently all the push chairs that can be used as a car seat can be attached to the car using the seat belts - is that right? I am travelling to two different cities abroad with a 3 months old baby and I need to carry the car seat/push chair and it would be extremely helpful if I can just attach the pram's seat to the seat belt - any advise on the brand I should be looking for? Thanks With many travel systems, they can just be taken from the pram to the car and attached with only the belt. I know for sure the graco ''JUNIOR'' does this as this is the one i had. Most sell Isofix bases to allow it to be strapped to car and not the seat. With the one i had The lapbelt went over (still not on as it went in slots) my son and the rest of the belt was behind the seat. Had no issues using and VERY easy to use.

We had the inglsena zippy and thought it was great. Had front and rear facing, one hand fold. Is 12kgs with stroller attachment or that comes off and you attach the car seat instead and frame is light weight but very sturdy. The stroller part folds flat so you don't need to buy a bassinet fitting, it then has a number of dif reclining positions to upright. Mine is for sale on dubizzle, it's blue and in perfect condition. I do have someone coming on sat or Sunday to view it but happy to let you know if it's still available if the lady decides not to take it. Comes with car seat and base (not isofix).

if any help, my baby due in ealry jan and I had the same problem! we ended up buying a mamas and papas sola system (car seat + pushchair) Its easy to fold/unfold and its lightweight at abt 9 kg i think, compared to bugaboo or quinney which is abt 13/14 kg. apparently its really useful to have a car seat and you can take in out of car and fit onto stroller as when baby sleeping you dont need to wake her. Also the sola is a 'which' best buy (uk company that reviews products) and the car seat is meant to be v safe. We did not opt to get the carry cot which also fits on frame, as the pushchair itself is suitable for newborn and we ve been told that carry cots are never used more than 2 or 3 months!

Got so weak that it scared me into thinking that I was gonna deliver early! Feeling so much better now, and DD still safe inside me! :) SweetLily - reading thru carseat.se now. I was under the impression that I wud need to change from rear facing to front facing by the time DD reaches age 1. Will def take all of ur advice. Thanks! :)

I feel like I post this link all the time. I swear that I don't work for them. Lol. We got our seat through Carseat.se. It's a fantastic site that carries extended rear facing seats. Like Kiwispers said, rearfacing is far, far safer than forward facing and that link she gave gives some fantastic information. Carseat.se delivered our seat within a week and we love it. It is one of the very few seats that we can keep her rearfacing up to 25 kg and it is light weight and thin so we can very easily take it and use it on the plane when we travel. (Some airlines require you to have your own car seat when you have a child under 2 in their own seat.) Hope that helps.

whatever you buy make sure you have personally folded it and unfolded it 100% by yourself several times as the sales assistants won't be there when you are putting it in your car or taxi.

Yes there are car seats that go from birth to 2 years, for safeties sake you ideally want to keep rear facing until this age or later anyway (as recent research has shown even at 12 months their necks aren't really ready for forward facing and they can suffer "internal decapitation" but there are some that convert. They don't tend to be the same seats that can be attached to the top of your pram though, more ones that you leave in the car. The base is a faster way to put the seat in and out of the car, good if you are using an infant seat that does clip onto the pram, the maxi cosi cabrio fix for example which fits quite a few models of pram. Also handy if you have 2 cars and only one seat but otherwise not all that big a deal and you can do without. The bigger/heavier prams tend to cope better with bumps/kerbs/rocky roads/beach sand etc, the lightweight ones can be hopeless in anything other than the mall. If budget allows you might do both, it can actually work out cheaper to buy 2 prams rather than one "converts to everything" type pram. HTH

Truth is that, the couple of times that I hv been to the shops, I stand absolutely clueless in front of the car seats and strollers. So, Im hoping all you experienced ladies can help me out. Car seats - What should I be looking for? My only requirement is that I find something that can be used from the time she's an infant to around the time she's 2 years. (Do they make them like that?) Can a rear facing car seat be converted into a front facing one? Do I need a Car seat base? What r they for exactly? Strollers - Again, looking for something that can be used from the time shes an infant, and converted as she grows. Hopefully something thats sturdy yet lightweight. I hv seen some of my friends struggling when it comes to folding down the strollers. The ones that can be changed from front facing to rear facing would also be good. Pls do give me an idea of the price also. Thanks! PinkBlossom, Cant help re car seat (we had infant seat then next stage) however, we have a Graco stroller you can get from the BabyShop. If you buy a Graco car seat it'll fit on the frame. It has 3 different recline modes - including a flat for newborns. the thing i like about it is it is lightweight, easy to maneuver and you can have the baby facing you or facing outwards by flipping the handle over.
