Ladies,
As a first time parent I need your advice please, am confused about the correct temperature for our 2 week old to sleep in - the hospital told us at least 22 Degrees, max 25 degrees whereas when I researched online it stated that the temperature should be between 18 - 21 Degrees to reduce the risk of SIDS.

Please let me have your advice.

Thanks a ton in advance!

Thank you to all of you for your feedback - makes sense that the 18-21 degree guideline from Europe isn't applicable here due to the different weather conditions. Will stick to a room temperature of 23ish here, thanks again for your input, greatly appreciated!

There isn't actually any evidence as to a pefect temperature, basically to room should be well ventilated and feel comfortable for a lightly clothes adult an your baby should be lightly clothed. Around 22 degrees has worked well for us.

I went through this stress only a few weeks ago and right now I'm going to check on my baby as I have put her in a grobag tonight and am not sure if she is too hot or too cold...ahhhhh Up until last night i set the ac to 22, dressed her in a short baby grow and used a cellular blanket doubled over her. She was fine and has been for 7weeks. I woke up over the weeks, multiple times in the night to check on her, now it's getting a little cooler I have adjusted the ac to 23 and put her in a 2.5 tog grobag. I doubled checked the ac against a friends baby monitor which displayed temperature, it was spot on. My baby seems fine, I check her chest which is warm to the touch, she doesn't grumble and sleeps very well. It is better for them to be slightly too cold than too hot as they will sleep when hot which is where the SIDS arise. It's so hard to know what to do. My midwife told me to ignore the uk guidelines due to the difference in ambient temperature......

I'm the same as fairycakeyumm and have the ac on 25 for my children during the warmer months. The UK recommended 18-21 feels absolutely arctic here. It has just never made sense to me to have my children in warm temperatures during the day then cold at night. Rather than having their rooms artificially cold and covering them up I prefer to reduce the amount of aircon I use and have them sleep in just a vest. The get far more colds, sniffles and coughs during the aircon months so I reduce it as much as I can. I had my first baby in the UK and her room was normally between 18-21. It didn't feel cold as it was more in correlation with daytime temperatures.

I think is better for a baby's room to be cooler - you can always cover them up if they seem to be feeling the cold. I would go with what you have read.

I always put the ac on 25 degree even now....and his baby thermometer reads 23 or 24 degree.....though it feels colder than that. With my eldest the room temperature was always cooler than that as it was in the UK.
