Thank you Smilies, congratulations to you too :0) !
I missed your email, mine is [email protected]
Hello ladies,
Congrats to all of you!
I'm 18 pregnant with twins and yes this is my first pregnancy! Been trying to meet mothers of twins or ladies who are pregnant with twins to share some experiences, advise, tips etc...anyone interested on meeting up?
Hi HA2011, thanks very much for taking time to drop this message. I really appreciate it. Due to a previous pre- term loss, am considered very high risk this time too. Could you pls send me your contact number to my mail id [email protected].
If you don't mind, I would like to have a chat with you to clarify few things.
Congrats for your girls :)
Hey...congrats!
I have twin daughters who were born in AlWasl earlier this year.
Here is what I can share:
1. AlWasl was AMAZING with my girls who were 3 months preterm.
2. None of my docs told me that I was at a risk of having prerterm babies or if there was anything wrong till a month before I delivered.
3. I used to see a different doc at AlWasl everytime, which I think was part of the problem, and my last doc was horrible. She didnt even listen to us properly.
I went into labour at 28 weeks, and was in no pain at all. Though uptil then I hated AlWasl, after that they were amazing with my girls. They were in the NICU for 46 days and 81 days respectively and we never had to worry about ANYTHING. Its the cheapest NICU in terms of cost but the care is amazing.
So I will recommend that you register at Alwasl and go there every month, just to curb that doubt of preterm delivery. BUT also see a OBGYN outside to make sure that YOU are getting the proper care.
Congratulations!
I delivered both my sets of twins in Dubai at Al Wasl Hospital. At the time there was limited choices of hospitals, but wouldn't of chosen any other way for them. First born at 32 weeks natural, and were both in special baby care unit there......and the second set of twins delivered at 37 weeks by emergency c-section. Couldn't fault their care but midwives and staff will of totally changed in the years since so I'm no help there.......but couldn't say a bad word about them with my experiences.
First pregnancy I was fine throughout, very very different story for the second two.
But all will be fine for you all I am sure. Best of luck!

Congratulations on your news Ladies!!!!
I am scheduled for a c-section in 8 days time to bring my twins into the world!!!!
As with guiness, I am with Dr Elsa at City Hospital. She is totally amazing and inspires confidence. I feel like I am in really good hands. I had DS2 at Al Wasl but we would not have been fully covered for NICU if I had have gone back to Al Wasl whereas City Hospital is a "net work provider" with my insurance company.
I didn't bother registering with Al Wasl either, it is not as cheap as it use to be (to register you would need to fork out over 7000) and I believe that City is now equally equipped to handle the premmies.
I was worried about premature birth as well but currently I am 36 weeks, so holding up well. Like Guiness, this has been one of my smoothest pregnancies, apart from the sickness in the first trimester.
@doublestar: congratulations!
I myself came to know today after a 6 week scan that am having twins. Like you, am thoroughly confused.
I have a history of PROM. Just about an year ago, my water broke at about 30 weeks 3 days for no reason, I ended up with an emergency c- section. My baby son lived in nicu just for eleven days.
You can imagine how badly I want these babies. I have no other living children at the moment.
Which doc are you seeing? I'm seeing dr. Grace Jacob as I found out from my research that he is high risk OB. Few ladies here in EW recommended her to me. Am hoping she will help me get my babies home this time.
Am planning to register at AW too.
All the best to you and pls keep in touch.
To be honest, my pregnancy with the twins was easier than that of my daughter. I had tons of energy in the last trimester (maybe knowing it was my last pregnancy ever!) and bedrest was never a concern at all. I gained the same amount of weight as I did with my singleton daughter (!) and aside from an afternoon nap everyday, didn't feel bad at all.
I delivered my first in Australia, and I haven't really noticed a difference in care between there and Dubai - although I did have a plan B to go back if a problem developed. But like you, I had other children to think of, and at least in Dubai, I had help looking after them!
We weren't eligible for Al Wasl because our visa is from Ras Al Khaimah. But there are quite a few reasons they won't accept you - I reckon the sooner you can go around there and ask them the requirements, the better.
Hi Guinness
Thank you for the reply. I do look forward to having twins! We have had huge fertility problems both to conceive my son and to conceive these twins. Now, we will be a family of 5, which is absolutely a dream come true.
So, I really don't worry about the double work and all the practical matters, all that can be arranged.
I just want the babies to have the best care possible, no matter when they decide to come. It is very true what you are saying: if you want to fly home then you need to go really early. And I don't really want to leave my son behind for months on end, but taking him with me and taking care of him on my own over there doesn't seem a really good option either- I suppose I will need to rest a lot.
I just hope I will make it to 38 weeks like you did! Did you lead a 'relatively' normal life up until the birth, or were you on lots of (bed)rest?
Do you mind if I ask why you were not eligible for registration at Al Wasl?
Congratulations on your twins! They are fantastic fun - and a lot of work! I felt the same way you do when I first learned I was having twins here in Dubai. I considered going home, but with twins, you would need to travel quite early to make it worth while, stay in your home country for quite a while and the risk of all that travel and stress is that you might bring the twins earlier than you would if you were to just stay in Dubai. That is why I opted to have my twins here.
The first thing you should do is see if you are eligible to register at Al Wasl hospital. They have one of the best neonatal ICU's in the country and the cheapest. I wasn't eligible, though, and it was ok. However, a long stay in an NICU is ridiculously expensive here - so the next thing you should do is see if your insurance covers NICU stays. Many don't - so see if yours does and if it doesn't, see if you can get some that does.
Then, there are also quite a few private hospitals with NICU. I chose City and Dr Elsa because they take premies from quite young - different hospitals will accept from different weeks. Some only take from 30 weeks, but City is 26 or even earlier I think. Canadian Specialist also claims to have a fantastic NICU, but I've never met anyone who delivered there.
The waiting was pretty bad, but once we reached 30 weeks, we sighed a huge sigh of relief! And in fact, my twins were delivered at 38 weeks and probably would have hung out for the whole 40 if we'd have let them!
Good luck!
Dear ladies
I am just 6 weeks pregnant with twins and am slightly terrified by the idea of it... . My main worry is a premature delivery. Any experienced ladies out there? Do most of you expecting twins deliver in the UAE or do you fly back home a few months in advance? What if they come early here: what about the standard of neonatal care in the Dubai hospitals?
Thanks for your advice!
