Humous, why should a doctor (especially a gynae) wear fake nails? Back home all medical staff have to have short unvarnished nails and i am pretty sure this is the same everywhere, so I was super shocked first to hear she was even allowed to wear them, second of what she did with them and third that she had no issues doing this in front of your husband! I don't think you want her have her nails falling off while you are delivering or if she has to perform a c-section. So first I would report her to the medical director of the hospital and secondly, yes DO change doctors. There are plenty of good doctors in Dubai so you may want to see another one while you wait for your appointment with Dr Elsa. My doctor is Dr Jennifer Karsisky at the Welcare Mediclinic in Garhoud who also delivered my first baby and I must say she is one of the most professional doctors I have seen in Dubai but she also has the ability of talking to you 'woman to woman' which is lovely.

Congrats all! I just passed 14 weeks and got the joy of calling family yesterday to let them know. That was SO much fun! This is our first, so I'm definitely nervous, especially being so far from friends & family. Glad to find this forum. I've only had a little bit of morning sickness (night sickness, actually). Lucky so far! :-)

Congrats Humous.. you must be glad to be over the 12 weeks and the baby is fine.... are you still feeling Nausea?....Sorry to hear about your dissatisfaction with your doctor. can you please advice which doctor you had this bad experience with? Thanks Starfish, I am feeling better...but not 100% yet, threw up this morning just as I was about to leave for work...had mascara running down my cheeks lol. I had my 12 week scan yesterday and the scan itself went well (baby squiggling around like mad) but was really disappointed with the doc. First I had to wait over an hour to be seen (they were running late and didn't bother letting people know). So I left work early for nothing in the end. Then, when I was finally seen, the doctor spent the first few minutes of my appointment on the phone to another patient while I was lying on the bed with my clothes up waiting to be scanned. While she was on the phone, she picked all her nails and pulled them off and collected them on the table and then threw the nails in the bin. This is what DH observed while I was fuming on the bed waiting to be seen. I found her to be very abrupt and just wasn't happy at all. I'm now on a waiting list for Dr Elsa in December..and I don't care if I only meet her 2 months before I'm due. I don't want my current doctor!!! I'm not sure if I'll go for the extra test. Everything was fine in my scan and I'm not over 35...just feel uncertain about doing it.

I'm also on number two twin_butterfly and certainly looking and feeling like I overdid it at lunch. Will be glad when I look definitely pregnant rather than like someone who ate too many pies! With regard to getting further testing done, I know Fetal Medicine Centre in Healthcare City offer a blood test (from you, not the baby). They combine the results with the nuchal translucency measurement from the 12week scan & cross reference it with your age etc to generate a statistical likelihood for several chromosomal disorders. It could perhaps put your mind further at ease. Apologies if you already know all of this or have had it done! Our 12 wk scan went well; seeing that little person squiggling round and doing their own thing in there was just as exciting and mesmerising as first time round :) Homous, I hope you're starting to feel a little better! I have definitely felt more nauseous this time around and at 13 weeks, it only just seems to be beginning to ease off now. I also find crackers in the handbag help! BluSAVANNAH, I've also been wiped out with tiredness some afternoons, I'm sure it's worse when I've been out in the heat but its sometimes all I can do to keep my eyes open and it always seems to coincide with my daughter being wide awake and active and never with her nap times...times like that it would be handy if she had little batteries I could take out for a while! Hope you're all keeping well x

Thank you lleeaa for the note re: whooping cough - i had no idea, so will definitely check with my Dr once she is back from her holiday! I hope you are feeling better now? 12-week scan also went really well so I was all smiles when I left the hospital, as I had been very worried. Still debating whether to do further tests as I fall in the high risk segment due to age :( How did you 12-wk scan for star*fish? Hope well too ... Humous, with pregnancy number one I had quite a bit of nausea as well, so was always carrying crackers with me to snack on - that always helped. Oh, before I forget: I seem to have a huge belly already compared to pregnancy number one where I barely showed up to the fourth month. Now I forever look as if I have just had a huge lunch and considering how small the baby still is, just does not seem normal. Has anyone of the other non-new mums also experienced this? Is it bloating or the pregnancy itself? Congrats again to all the mums-to-be on this group! It seems to be going really well for everyone xx edited by twin_butterfly on 12/08/2013

Congratulations everyone! Had the 3months tests last Sunday and everything is fine:-) According to the results, not planning amniocentesis TwinButterfly, but of course, one always would like to be sure 100% instead of 92% I suppose... Ladies, just wanted you to be aware and careful as I m still amazed: I ve caught the whooping cough here in Dubai! There are apparently different pregnant women who got it. As the symptoms are those of children (strong coughing, vomiting and suffocations), I tell you it is NO fun! It has different phases and lasts weeks. I didn t know that the vaccination one gets as kid wasn t for the whole life and that in Europe they have just issued new recommendations, i.e. to get vaccinated before getting pregnant or at least during pregnancy. You may want to check. Apparently it will not harm the baby; hope so!

Congratulations everyone and welcome on board :) So exciting that there will be so many of us! Feels like I've been in Dubai forever not just a few months! I'm 11wks 3days and still suffering from nausea and sickness. Can't wait for this sickly time to be over so I can just enjoy it.

One more adding to this thread: due in Feb with our second - am now 11 weeks... Had my first scan last week and it was so exciting seeing the tiny little arms and hearing her heartbeat! Also waiting to tell everyone including the family (number of different sensitive issues) until the end of the first 3 months ... hopefully back at the end of the month with good news :) Is anyone planning to have the amniocentesis or CVS test? We did not with DS and wondering what to do this time ... Congratulations to all of you Ladies!

Good morning everybody!!! CONGRATULATIONS to everybody on here, and I hope you guys have a healthy and comfortable pregnancy. I am 10 weeks and my DD is for Feb 20th. I am actually between Miami and Dubai and I will most probably end up delivering in Miami since my entire family is there and my hubby travels a lot for work, we can't really pin point how long he will be able to stay with me after delivery (because he HAS to be with me that day or days, LOL) but I still need to get care here and scans. I already did my first ultrasound and blood work and all is looking great. As most of us are approaching the 11-12 week mark its time to do the chromosomal abnormality tests. Where have you guys gotten them done here in Dubai. This is my first pregancy so it is all new to me!! As to how I am doing, I think I'm doing ok. Not 100% normal, as I sleep more than I use to, and rest more. I have actually lost some weight because I didn't feel like eating, and when I started having small meals BAM the nausea was gone and my tummy feels good. I get occasional headaches, nothing Tylenol hasn't been able to fix. Umm I think I got it all! How are you guys doing? Hope to meet up for coffee or anything. Hubby is traveling now, so I have all the free time in the world!!! I am not working since maternity leave is so bad in this country, but I am a marine biologist and worked at Ski Dubai with the penguins and was going to start at Atlantis with the dolphins, but we have to put that on hold for now!! ;-) nice to meet you all!

Hi! No, I haven't told my children yet. I want to wait until I have finished my first trimester just in case. We've talked about the subject though, and one wants a baby brother and the other one wants a baby sister. My DS is only 13 months old so he will be blissfully unaware.

Hi ladies, Congratulation's on your wonderful news! I've recently discovered I'm 6 wks pregnant, due 1st week of March but may well have little one earlier as this is Baby #3. This is all quite new to me again as my youngest daughter is 11yrs old!!!!! :-D Must say not experiencing as bad a case of morning sickness as I did with my two previous pregnancies but am absolutely exhausted most afternoons, could be the heat perhaps? Fuller: I've practically given up on trying to preserve any 'normal' clothes as have popped out so soon I already look 5mnths pregnant!! Yikes! Looking forward to keeping in touch with you all!

Lucky you Claire - I would love to be told I'm a week ahead.. a week less of ms to go through! I feel exactly the same as you Homous, the only time I feel ok is when I'm eating..! Not good for the waistline and I have already had to retire some clothes! I think I'm growing a food baby..! :) I've thrown up a few times but dry retching at least a few times a day.. I cant wait for it to be over & feeling good again...!

Congrats Clairedxb! Must be nice to know you're a week ahead! I'm suffering from terrible morning sickness. I guess I should be thankful that it's not worse and I'm not throwing up (like some of my friends when they were pregnany) but right now I just feel sick, nauseous and acidic ALL the time! I'm not fasting... if I don't eat and drink constantly then I feel absolutely awful. It's not easy though. I've hidden a bottle of water and some snacks in the prayer room at work and hide there to eat every hour. Don't really want people to know my news yet so have to be discreet!

Congrats Everyone! It's such am exciting time. I am 7wks today. I feel so sick all the time so cannot wait till the morning sick passes & I can enjoy being pregnant. Can anybody recommend a good Dr? I am not completely happy with the one I'm using at the moment. I find she doesn't listen to what I'm telling her, which can be very frustrating... I'm seeing Dr Jennifer Karsinsky at Welcare after recommendations on here... I've only met her once so far but she was really warm and lovely.

Congrats Fuller! I went for my scan today and turns out I'm only 6 weeks along, not 7 like I thought so could just about see the tiny blip that is the baby.... Going back in a couple of weeks inshallah when there's more to see and hear. I'm also eating constantly and drinking ginger beer. Not the healthiest of choices so can't wait for this awful time to pass!!

Congratulations to everyone! This little group is growing fast! We had our first scan on the weekend, was 8 weeks along and saw a good heartbeat - such a relief but looking forward to getting to the end of morning sickness, I cant believe you're almost there DXBMummy! I'm so jealous! I have found bickfords ginger soda is good too. & pretty much just eating non-stop helps... but I'm sure half of my nausea is from feeling so full all the time! Good luck for those with scan's coming up, very exciting & good for piece of mind.

Congrats ladies! I am now 9 weeks and starting to feel a bit better during the day. I was like you Humous, never actually sick but feeling very nauseous all the time. The only cure I've found is ginger tea, which I am drinking pretty much all the time! Am now having days that aren't as bad as others so think the worst might be over (fingers crossed anyway!) x

Congrats ladies! In the same position as you Humous; first pregnancy and at 6.5 weeks - had the first scan which showed a hearbeat of 102. Feeling very emotional but haven't noticed any nausea or other symptoms - yet! Seems 12 weeks is the magic period, already wish we were there so I could start to relax. Best wishes to you all for healthy, happy pregnancies :) Congratulations! Must have been so magical hearing that heartbeat! I was fine up until about 5 days ago and suddenly I was overcome with nausea and now I feel terrible! Not actually throwing up, just feel really, really sick almost all the time (seems to get better when I lie down which is difficult to do at work) and feeling really tired as well. I think I'm about 7 weeks now but I guess I'll find out tomorrow x

Hi dxbmummy and fuller, I m 5weeks (pregnancy) with my first:-) It was very emotional to see the little bean with the heartbeat but we were told not to be too happy until 12th week and it s...long. When you say 6.5/7w, do you talk like Drs (since last periods) or in pregnancy weeks? Since you already have some experience, how did/do you manage with work? I finally found a job a few months ago, which I love, but I m feeling so terrible that I already was a lot absent, which is bad...but I m throwing up so much and having some malaises...called little symptoms but very annoying...

Hi DXBMummy, I am due Feb 2014 too! This is also my second, DD was born 2011. I'm 6.5 weeks along. Great to meet someone else in same boat. Will you find out the s*x? Where will you deliver? I'm still undecided. Having our first check-up/scan next week! I hope you're feeling well? I'm having clouds of nausea but not too bad.
