my ds turned 6 months old and i started his solids. (touch wood) but he eats with a gusto and asks for more :) from past week i am noticing that his hunger has increased. he keep on asking for milk and become irritated too. i feel like my feed and one time meal of solids isn't enough for him. he keeps on opening his mouth for more solids and points and screams too for more. as already discussed here in the past he is a big baby so i am wondering should i start formula or additional milk? has anyone tried "hipp" organic good night milk or follow on milk? i thought considering his health he didn't required formula. his doctor is on leave right now but he did told me once not to given him cereals for another 2 months.

He's becoming a big boy, who now wants 'real food', not formula. My LO took to solids with real excitement at 6months & gradually started dropping milk feeds within weeks, but still kept up a morning, evening & dream breast milk feed for quite a few months... She wanted texture, and now she is 23months & eats anything & everything... The body is amazing & it will adapt milk production to give your LO what he needs! BTW- Brocoli (well steamed) was her first ever food & it was her absolute favourite, something she could really sink her (two) teeth into! edited by champagneblonde on 06/11/2012

Whether to give formula or not is your choice, but ask yourself, he is a big baby, how did he get that way, clearly you have plenty of milk. From the first day I started solids my son wanted to eat large amounts, so I just went with that and gave him the amount he wanted (with a milk feed first to make sure he drank plenty of milk), and continued to breastfeed on demand as well. There is no reason to add formula, unless you are trying to stop breastfeeding. Excellent advise. I would say increase solids. One at a time. Keep with breastfeeding, you are doing a great job mashaa Allah. Dont worry for his weight, I wish my daughter now 3 month would drink more nd I had plenty milk!

Just feed him more. Good, healthy foods. Introduce foods with calcium, like broccoli, and easy to digest proteins.
