Hi ladies

I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on our situation... My husband has been offered new job in Dubai and he is going to accept. I am currently 31 weeks pregnant and due to give birth at AH at beginning of April.

I'm on my husband's visa and our concern is what will happen if our visas are still being processed when I go into labour - and hence we don't have valid visas and don't have passports on our person when baby is born. He has a notice period of 3 months in current job - so in theory, that won't be an issue anyway - but as he's going to a competitor in the construction world, we are worried they will ask him to leave immediately (obviously on full pay - but taking away our visas and leaving it to the new company to sort). Baby could choose to come at any time, so we really can't judge it timewise. Insurance isn't our concern as new company has said they will give us instant cover for my care - and if worst came to worst, we could obviously just pay upfront.

I wondered if you could shed any light on what the hospital will need / what we will need in days following birth to register birth? I am leaning towards waiting until April for him to hand his notice in, but he's keen to move forward with the offer.

You have 30 days to register the birth. 120 days to get a visa here is a link with info from government website. I second baby steps. You could take a copy of your passport now with your valid visa and use that for registration. Hi Barboram We are just in the midst of this process so can give a bit of insight. We delivered DD at City and they required copies of our visa pages. Might be worth checking with AH on what they need to register the birth. Just to clarify the timing - you have two weeks to register LO birth and 90 days to get visa (so that means passport and visa complete). For birth registration we used Baby Steps and they were great - you could always ring them and ask about the visa issue as they do this all the time. Hope this helps

Hi barboram, thanks so much for replying to me. I didn't realise that we had 90 days to register baby - I had heard that we'd need to register the birth fairly quickly at another hospital (or get a company to do it for us). I had just assumed it would be a short time frame, like a week or so - so 90 days could make our situation a whole lot easier! Does anyone know if we will need to show passports / visas while at the hopsital for any reason? I am already registered at AH already as have been having all care there until now.

Hi, tricky situation. He could try and talk to HR in his current job, you never know, he could strike a deal. You have 90 days to register the baby, so as long as his new work is aware of this and will accept payment if need be you should all be fine.
