There are better ways than just arriving before you are ready to deliver. Next time try taking out a medical insurance that covers the USA. It will be cheaper and much safer for you and the baby.

Thanks so much sobevan for the info, my insurance covered USA and Mom says she will also help. But of course i still need to be financially prepared. How about the immigration officers in the US, are they strict when it comes to pregnant woman on tourist visa. I doubt it. Just wear baggy clothes so as not to draw attention to yourself. If you don't have an SSN, then they can never track you down and you'd never have to pay for the labor!

Didn't even think of it that way. True, I suppose. But could be way more depending on situation. My 1st son's birth was about $14,000. My friend's was $25,000. Could be $40,000 if you have a c-section! Big difference between $12K and $40K!

LOL. I think the $12K is probably worth it for the passport! Wish the States would close that legal loophole.

All I can say is, I hope your health insurance covers birth in USA because it costs A LOT of money to have a baby in America. I think a home birth would be way cheaper, but if you want to be in a hospital, good luck. In NY/NJ metro area, I don't think you can deliver in a hospital for less than $12,000 for a 2-night stay. More if you have a c-section, complications, epidural, etc. Besides finding out if you can give birth there on a tourist visa, I'd call around to the local hospitals/birthing centers and find out what they charge.
