Hi,
My not so LO anymore will soon learn to read. He is trilingual and I am at lost to find tips on how to help him through this important phase. Should we focus exclusively on acquiring English literacy skills first, does it matter? What are the dos and don'ts? More importantly what was your experience since most kids in Dubai are bilinguals.
Thanks in advance!

My son is learning to read in both languages simultaneously at Children's Garden, he's in the English-Arabic section. I believe it's the same for the French-English section. The Arabic reading is a little behind but there are pronunciation markers over and below the letters, which have their own rules, so he's doing well. He chooses 1 Arabic and 1 English storybook at bedtime each night, and I do supplemental literacy and writing activities in both languages with him in the afternoon. He also gets a weekly reading pack in each language from his teachers.
