Hi Ladies,

I had a baby girl 6 weeks ago in UK and there is no vaccinations given at birth in UK but I believe here there is BCG and Hep B and then at 8 weeks there are some more. Generally, how do babies react/respond in the days after the vaccinations as I was planning to travel shortly after the 8 week injections? Are they generally fine but a bit grumpy or can they be miserable for days as I've read about babies getting fever and flu etc after the vaccinations.

Secondly, can anyone recommend a good pediatrician in Palm Jumeirah or near there ... Maybe Dubai MArina?

Thanks,
Natasha xx

good point, you can have the 8 week ones at 6/7 weeks since you didn't have hep B at birth. Should be able to get BCG at the same time too.

Mine was truly miserable for a few days after the 8 week vaccines, even if they are not that grumpy I wouldn't plan to travel for at least 3 days after as ideally you'd want them to be able to rest as they are know doubt feeling achy and a bit yucky even if not visibly upset. Yep...I agree on waiting. Either have the vacc's earlier before planned travel or wait until after the trip. All three of my children had very different reactions to vaccinations and each one had different reactions to the same vacc at different ages (if that makes sense!). You won't know until your little one has the jabs. Fingers crossed your little girl is a 'no reaction' type. Congratulations on her birth! :D

Hi Natashak My DS is almost 3 months old and was born in Al Wasl. He had Hep B and BCG whilst at hospital and I registered at Safa Clinic for the rest of his immunisations. Government clinics give free immunisations and all you have to do is get a healthcard for the LO which costs 100 AED per year. We had his first set of immunisations when he was 2 months old (they went by calendar dates rather than DOB). He had 2 injections, one in each thigh, they consisted of Polio/Diptheria/Whooping cough/Tetanus/Haemophilus Influenza b/Pneumococcal C and the second dose of Hep B. Every child reacts differently to the immunisations and it's hard to predict. Some have no reaction whatsoever and some get mild flu like symptons which last a couple of days. You will normally given some kind of pain relief for them should they fall ill. As I was making the next appointment for him I asked if I could pick another date as we are travelling back to the UK and was told that we shouldn't travel for a few days right after or before the injections in case the child catches something. HTH
