Hello! A friend of mine has a premature baby that has problems feeding. She wants to drink but then turns her head away and screams and clenches and cries. She is about 6 weeks old and the drinking was a problem right from the beginning but got a lot worse now. She seems not to be able to swallow anymore or might be afraid of it? She also has a bloated belly. Anyone of you experiences this before and/or knows what to do about it? She also has a low tonicity. Can you recommend a good physiotherapist for babies to address both issues? She is seeing an otheopat already. Thanks for your help! Everything is much appreciated!

DS had problems feeding due to tongue tie... Dr Delphine has helped us a great deal! Brilliant and so patient.

she could be aspirating milk when she drinks and developing an oral aversion. A reflux specialist might be able to help, sorry I can't help with recommending one.

Hi Smarti. Sorry to hear your friend is having problems. Kate Mills at City Hospital is a Paediatric specialist physiotherapist and is fantastic. Not so sure she (or any other physio to be honest) could help with the feeding issues, but perhaps someone like Cecile De Scally would be more qualified for something like that - i know she's worked wonders for friends whose babies have had feeding problems; but Kate would certainly be able to address the low tonicity issues. Cecile's email address is: [email protected]. She's really helpful. Maybe your friend could email her and see if she thinks she could help. HTH
