hi all,

Any suggestions for reflux and wind solutions. when DS is going to sleep he seems to double over in pain and just can not settle by himself. he relies on a pacifier but spits it out and gets more frustrated if i put him in cot to do it by himself.

he is on zantac for reflux and the formula is comfort (i have weaned off bf'ing as his issues are so much more worse on bm than formula - i just don't think my milk is all that flash - wasn't first time around either and yes I tried loads of things to keep it going and help him but not much if any worked).

So his doubling over... I've stopped using infacol (however not sure how else to get him to take his dummy which he relies on for initially settling to sleep - unless it has something on it liquid wise he wont take it and therefore wont get to sleep until he has had a massive screaming fit and its about 1-2 hrs later).

He is on aptimal comfort formula, i have tomee tippee bottles anti reflux / colic bottles as dr browns didn't really work for him - fast flow teat too fast and then the others below that keep getting clogged coz formula too thick.

I have some other stuff similar to infacol that is for colic but don't think that is doing anything either

wondering if I should try a different formula? Are there any other comfort ones out there in other brands?

What about Neocate? ive heard this is gentle on the tummies? where can i get it and how much is it selling for here?

thanks.

one more thought, bringing knees up when crying is something that pretty much any really upset baby will do, so its not necc a sign that he is in physical pain, he could just be upset because he finds it really hard to settle and needs a lot of help with soothing, unrelated to his reflux?

did you read the other thread about reflux, there are some tips on there http://www.expatwoman.com/qatar/forum/messages.aspx?TopicID=184801 Basically the biggest thing I found to help with reflux for my son was smaller more frequent feeds. I don't know a lot about the different formulas but neocate is the one you need if his digestive upset is due to a cows milk protein allergy, the only thing is, apparently its hard to get an older baby to drink it as it tastes pretty awful, if they are on it from the newborn stage then they're ok with it but making the switch later can be tricky. A milk intolerance would be the obvious guess except for the fact that your baby was worse on breastmilk (and from memory I think you already tried a dairy fee diet and EBFing for a few weeks) if its not the cows milk protein then the neocate isn't really necessary. There has been a bit of recent research suggesting that probiotics can be really helpful with digestive issues in babies, certainly worth a try if you can get your hands on some, also some people do find switching to tummy sleeping helps, obviously this needs to be done un-swaddled and in a safe cot (firm mattress, no blankets no cot bumpers, no pillows etc etc). I can't remember how old your LO is but if he has good neck control then its something to consider, I know personally I was too nervous to put my guy down on his tummy and then by the time he was 4 months and could roll, he would pop up on his hands and knees every time he did, so teaching him to sleep that way was quite a drama. baby massage before a nap might help too? BTW has your Dr been upping the zantac dosage to keep up with your baby's weight gain, the dosage needs to be adjusted on a regular basis. I didn't need to medicate but my SIL found with both her babies that losec was much better than zantac.

I can't help on the formula bit, I'm sure other posters can do that. Do you burp him? what about 'cycling' the legs? Here's a link to babycenter which i found is very useful when DD was young http://www.babycenter.com/0_colic-how-to-cope_1369745.bc HTH S
