My baby is rolling from his back onto his stomach and then crying because he can't roll himself back. He is my second baby so I'm certainly not 'precious' about it. but he starts crying and gets louder and louder. Sometimes I go in there and he's rolled up in the corner and arms through the cot rails. I seem to be going in there 5-10 times a night at the moment, it's driving me mad and getting me down. HELP!

I should mention, I am a routine person so he sleeps the correct amount in his morning nap and the correct 2 hours for his lunch nap and then nothing until he goes down at 7pm (very easily). The fun doesn't start until mostly 4am.

Maybe I should try bumpers??

Anyone have a Safe t Sleep I can buy?

Kiwi - do you still have your Safe T Sleep - I would buy it? I would totally sell it, actually I'd happily give it to you, but I'm in doha not the UAE. Watch out, both my kids crawled at 5 months, sounds like you might be in for the same!

Thanks Kiwi. You given me some great ideas (from a fellow Aussie - we're basically the same country!) I am going to try the port-a-cot tonight. He sleeps in the port-a-ot for lunch time sleeps as it's downstairs but I'll put it upstiars tonight - great idea. My son is 4.5 months so still too young for bumpers although he is a mover. He's very close to crawling, pushing his little bottom in the air. Kiwi - do you still have your Safe T Sleep - I would buy it?

Actually on re reading the OP I'm not sure why I have it in my head that its a six month old, if your baby is younger than 4 months then maybe bumpers are not a good idea. I know there was a recent report which stated that breathable bumpers have not been proven to be safer but it seems pretty obvious to me that they would be the safer choice. The risks from bumpers are the ties (which airwrap doesn't have) and suffocation if a baby somehow got their head stuck under one plus generally reduced airflow. What puzzles me is all the hoo-ha about bumpers and never a mention of padded Moses baskets, the mamas and papas one for example is a death trap in terms of suffocation risk.

I don't really think you stand much SIDs risk from bumpers at 6 months even the non breathable kind, unless your baby has very poor mobility for their age. I used the airwrap bumpers but it was really just to keep my son's dummy from falling out of the cot, they are designed to collapse down (so that they can't be used to climb out of the cot and don't come up that high so arms and kegs could still find their way out through the bars. I used a safe t sleep sleep belt for a while after we stopped swaddling as my son would roll onto his belly the second you lay him on his back and then couldn't fall asleep that way, what worked better though was just teaching him to sleep in his tummy ( as he was my first baby I was a but cagey about putting him down on his tummy before 6 months but it soon became obvious there was little point in doing anything else. If your baby falls asleep on his tummy he might freak out less when he wakes up that way? A portacot with mesh sides would be a good quick fix while he gets used to his new mobility.

Unfortunately, bumpers (even the "breathable" kind) are a SIDS risk. Best to give him plenty of time to practice rolling during the day and trust that this stages should be very short lived. I don't think it lasted much more than a week with either kid.
