I've finally got a last minute appointment with Dr Elsa at the city hospital for tomorrow morning. Hi Soxy, how did you manage to get in with Dr. Elsa?? I had my first apt with Dr. Brit and as she won't be around for my delivery she said she'd need to recommend me to a diff doc. I liked her, but I immediately became super excited for a recommendation for Dr. Elsa. Despite my request, and her referral I did not get an appointment as there was nothing available :-( Still on the wait list for an apt with her though :-/ Hi ummzarinah, sorry for the delay in responding to your post. I'm currently travelling and not checking the form often. Yes I did get to see her and seeing her again in May. I will say that I was really lucky she saw me because she had prior appointments which were cancelled but the appointment system did not catch up so I was able to be squeezed. I will advice for you to keep checking with the hospital as you never know when she would get a cancellation and you may be lucky like I was. I am glad that I've seen her and will continue to see her. Her level of expertise and her ease with her patients are all very impressive. Good luck and keep trying.

It looks like plastic from out side i wonder how it is absorbed,is it really like that? I used one last night and had some clear sticky discharge and itching. Is it normal. Moreover the med says to be used in first trimester only while i am 18 weeks?

I went to see a doctor at City Hospital that I have never read any reviews on, her name is dr. Azizunnisa or something, anyway, I was pleasantly surprised and I am considering staying with her since dr. George's clinic still hasn't opened up. She studied fetal medicine so during a random consultation she did a full scan and I was really impressed with that.

Hi girlies!! Hope everyone is well. Just had my 12 week u/s and blood test at the Fetal Test Center near City. All appears fine so far- so that's a nice relief. The u/s DR was able to tell me the baby's gender. Is that possible this early on? I remember with my first (in Canada), they couldn't tell me before I was at least 16-17 weeks? Do you all know the gender of your babies? edited by Cleo4e on 02/04/2013

HELP LADIES!!! I am sixteen weeks MashAllah so entered the second trimester.I am not gaining weight.rather lost half kg.Could you guys plz share some recipes to gain weight? Sakn, I too have lost a little weight and am 14 weeks - it is quite normal. Unless your dr says it is a problem - don't worry! I was the same at this stage with DD but promise it comes on in the second and third trimesters with no problems! I am hoping to keep my weight gain down this time as I started 6 kilos heavier than before DD; and am 10 kilos heavier than I should be - lol.

hi Cleo4e, thanks! i saw Dr Elsa today and she was great! like you i was concerned about a natural birth after a cs but she put me at ease and hopefully i am a good candidate for VBAC. really pleased i went to see her.Hi Ladies, glad to be joining this thread. I'm 16 weeks pregnant and due early September. I've been seeing Dr Badi at the EHL clinic in the meadows but not entirely convinced about her. So after reading through various threads and people's recommendations, I've finally got a last minute appointment with Dr Elsa at the city hospital for tomorrow morning. I wanted to ask for a few pointers regarding this appointment. Initially I had planned to go back home (UK) to have the baby but due to work commitments and the great maternity leave we get in dubai (lol) I am beginning to think that that plan will not be viable especially as I intend to work up to or as close to the due date as possible. Although this is my third pregnancy, it feels all new to me because last pregnancy was 12 years ago. I'm only 35 now so started early in the past. Unfortunately, I have now forgotten everything about pregnancies and doctors etc so and so any pointers as to what questions to ask Dr Elsa about the pregnancy and what to expect in the next few weeks would be appreciated. Thanks! I'm seeing DR Elsa at City, and I feel she's just lovely. Answers all of my questions and more. Since this is my second pregnancy- (my last one being 2 yrs ago) I didn't really have a whole lot to ask. My biggest concern was - can I VBAC and and am I a viable candidate. That was my main concern. She covers pretty much everything with you. I on the other hand- if all is well , Insha'allah-will be returning to Canada at the end of May to deliver there. With Dr. Elsa, you're in good hands and I wouldn't have too much to worry about.

Hi guys!! Hope everyone is well! Just wanted to share the most embarrassing experience of my life *sigh*. So the nausea as some of you may know has been especially horrible for me and i've been stuck at home for fear of going out and getting sick in public. Well..on friday- my dearest husband forced me to come out (hoping it would help me feel better)- saying it would do me some good, see some friends ect... I happen to be craving hot and sour soup from PF Chang's as well, so thought ok...let's give it a try. So we dropped my 2 yr old off at my in-law's and got ready to have a nice evening. So we went- all was well, until the soup arrived. I ate about 1/2 of it, until all of the sudden I knew this was going to come up. I also knew if i got up to run to the ladies room I wouldn't make it, I happen to have had a plastic bag in my purse as a precaution lol which I quickly whipped out. I had no choice and ducked under the table and got sick in the restaurant!! AAAHHHH soo sooo sooooooooo embarrassing, as I'm sure neighbouring tables saw, and my friends (who are not mommies) freaked out and that only drew more attention...ughhh... anyways-I've decided, that until this nausea blows over completely- I will not be going out again lol As for updates- I've hit 11 weeks today (alhumdullilah). I have my nuchal test next sunday- my son caught hand foot and mouth disease from nursery (for the second time), so just been busy trying to keep him comfortable and hydrated- myself un-sick and uninfected and getting the house ready to host some friends from Canada. It's a busy week. I'm looking forward to april, to being in my second trimester and just feeling like my old self again. I'm totally up for a meet up on the 5th ,provided i'm not longer sick- what a great first impression i'd make getting sick in front of u guys lol

Hi ladies, hope all are feeling relatively well... I have my Nuchal Trans. Scan next week, and inshallah if all goes well I intend to spread the word about my pregnancy after that ;) I have another confession: I had to buy some maternity pants and dress.. I know it's too early, but my tummy disagrees. Have a nice weekend everybody ?

Hi Johjoh When I went to see the my gynec at the clinic in Bur Dubai she did the scan and she had a doubt. So she sent me to Aster for an Ultrasound and got confirmed. But anyways, I am waiting for the next scan which may be there at the start of next month to confirm everything is fine. I want to register at Latifa. Do you know till when they will take admissions? And how are you feeling? Hi. If I were you I would go now. Unless you speak Arabic I would also suggest you go in person. If they actually answer the phone at Latifa it is very hard getting answers. You can also go to your local Government clinic and they will help you. I had my booking in appointment at Nad Al Sheba today and it was great. They don't do things until a lot later here though. My bloods etc will be done at 19 weeks and my 20 wk scan will be done at 24 wks! I am feeling fine now, just a little tired. How about you? Have you got your head around twins yet? ;)

Hi Everyone... Happy to meet you all here. I am now 11 weeks pregnant and is supposed to be twins!!! Planning to get admission in Latifa. Noted that Johjoh has already got an admission there. Anybody else in the group with a twin situation? Hi aish Congrats on twins! Who told you this? Where have you had a scan? I have my 'booking in' appointment at Nad al Sheba Clinic tomorrow where I will be paying the 5000aed for the antenatal package with them and Latifa. They wouldn't see me for this until I was 15 weeks...which I am now. Let's see how it goes :)

Hi guys- thought i'd pop in and see how everyone is doing. I've hit 10 weeks today, and the nausea hasn't let up just yet :( Some days are better than others. I got a really bad cough and cold which also doesn't whelp. Still so hard for me to go into the kitchen-at this point- i'm just looking forward to getting my energy and my appetite back. Thanks for the advice on flying as well. Ill be returning home to Canada at 21 weeks and will stay there until my delivery. I've never flown while pregnant before and any advice is so useful. I'll look into getting compression stockings for sure. With my 1st, I looked like I was about to pop any minute at 21 weeks, and i'm just dreading an uncomfortable 14 hour flight back home while being so huge *sigh*. I would be totally up for a meet up- as soon as I feel human again lol

On a different note, here a question to all: security checks at airports- allowed or not? There's that electronic gate you're suppose to go through and there is also the manual electronic/magnetic thing which is used in some cases (sorry, no idea how these things are called in english). Checked different web sites and each one says somethings totally different! Hi Pichon, I travel a lot for my job and asked the dr that exact question and was told no problems to go through them. Went through them all through my first and will do so all through my second. The only thing I don't like is when you have to be patted down and I refuse to let them touch my belly - that is just a personal space thing more than anything. Other tips for flying - wear the compression flight socks as we are at higher risk of clots; when I was 25weeks last pregnancy I flew to NZ and so had to have blood thinner injections before the two flights as a precaution. I fly longhaul now and dr said it will be later before I have to start doing the injections but have to keep active on the plane and loads of water (which is not much fun when you are up and down to the loo all the time). No sleeping pills which is the killer for me as I do overnights everywhere to be home as much as possible - lol. Hope everyone is coming right, we should all be hitting the energetic phase - is anyone keen to meet up at some point? maybe on a weekend as I know a lot of you will be working. Take care all

Welcome to the forum Johjoh! And thanks for sharing your thoughts. I believe the whole point of this forum is for us to feel free to share everything, good and bad. Personally Im happy you're here, since you are experienced with this whole pregnancy/baby thing :) On a different note, here a question to all: security checks at airports- allowed or not? There's that electronic gate you're suppose to go through and there is also the manual electronic/magnetic thing which is used in some cases (sorry, no idea how these things are called in english). Checked different web sites and each one says somethings totally different! Personally I decided not to take a chance and I declared I am pregnant and refused to go through the gate. They called the supervisor who asked if I have a note from my doctor. Which I didn't have, but at the end they took my word for it and allowed me to pass around it. I guess it will be easier when the tummy starts to show..

Hello everyone! I am 15 weeks with my 3rd baby. My eldest is 9 and my youngest will be 7 when baby appears...I though my nappy days were over! This was such a shock to me! We have no maternity insurance and I was too late to buy Daman's insurance so I am with Latifa Hospital so far. I have seen Dr Ibrahim at City, who i loved but I didn't like how busy and business like it is there, also the guy I saw for an ultrasound was very unprofessional and upset me with his flippant words and manner at what was a sensitive time. Latifa is always quiet, scrumptiously clean and I feel comfortable there....we'll see anyway. I work and I have been stuggling with tiredness. The sickness stopped at around 12 weeks, thank Goodness!!! I have also ballooned! I have been in maternity clothes for a few weeks now and I already look about 30 weeks! My DH and kids are so happy about this surprise baby...I am too but I am also worried. I had a little independence back and a job I love. We aren't well off but we don't struggle too much for money. Although I know this baby is a blessing and I am a big believer in fate I am also having private little freak outs and crying sessions! I want this baby so much but I am scared too. Then I think how lucky I am already having 2 healthy happy kids...what if I am not lucky this time? What if all this negative thinking is effecting baba?! Oh I guess it is my hormones all over the place. I can't believe I am actually admitting this! lol Everyone is so excited and I am just worrying about everything!

Hello ladies! Congratulations everyone - it's great to hear everyone's different situation and concerns. I'm 12 weeks now with no.2 (due Sept 27th), DS is 28months, and due to have my scan and tests next week at City Hospital. I'm registered with Dr Branch and we saw her at 8 weeks and were happy with her no nonsense attitude and pro-natural birth approach. Currently having issues regarding insurance (I posted earlier on th emain board), but otherwise everything is straight forward. I find the whole system out here crazy - back in the UK I simply went to my local midwife unit for check-ups and then to the nearest hospital for birth where we met the midwife delivering DS at the moment of birth. None of this pressure to select a hospital and choose a doctor - choice is great, but sometimes no choice is easier! Also concerned about extra costs - I'm rhesus negative - which again wasn't an issue in the UK. I'm hopefully over the nausea, had a rough few weeks when the thought of food made me retch and nibbling gingernuts was the only way forward, and I now can't wait for the scan so that we can start telling people that all is well and so that I can stop trying to hide my mini-bump! I work so the tiredness has been difficult, especially with a busy toddler to chase after, so I can't wait for the 'blooming' phase to start! Clothes are just about fitting but I definitely have an obvious tummy already - DS was a whopper so I fear no.2 is following in his footsteps already! Hope you are all well and managing to deal with the sickness and fatigue - looking forward to sharing the coming months with you all and perhaps meeting up further down the line? :)

[ Thanks Cleo! Congrats to you as well ;). I'm due on October 12th! Yeh! BTW is it just me or is it becoming difficult finding new cloths? Too fat/bloated for many of my regular clothes but don't have the cute pregnant tummy for pregnancy clothes yet :( No shopping for me in the next weeks I guess, at least my hubby is happy about it.... Woohoo, practically same due dates! Awesome. As for clothes...I have what I like to call "residual tummy" lol Residual- from my first c-section and pregnancy 2 yrs ago, so I've had trouble fitting into pants for a while now lol (despite my serious workout efforts). I'm just pulling out my yoga pants and leggings and living in those until I deliver lol

Yea it's tough, I'm pregnant and this may be my first and last! Can't deal with this nausea as well...does anyone know any good baby sites where I can find a good site for info, advice and products? I'm looking for something local if there is one... Hi Fatima, if your nausea is that bad you should ask your doctor to prescribe something. One of my friends was prescribed Zofran (Ondansetrin Orally disintegrating tablet 4mg) that she swears was a life saver for her. My cousin also had bad nausea into her second trimester and her doctor put her on Vitamin B6 which she says worked as well. I'd try the B6 first because its a vitamin, but definitely ask your doctor. Also nausea is worse when you aren't eating. I know you feel disgusting and eating is just yuck but keeping your water up and nibbling on crackers can actually help alot. If you dont like crackers try cheerios. You dont have to eat alot just alot of snacking, a cracker here and there if you can manage. Hope you feel better soon :-)

Hi ummzarinah Thanks so much for that info. I think it a bit odd that you can't have a tour of the hospital, but each country does things differently. I shall look into City I think as have heard lots of good things. Hope all is going well for you. Hi Bongo, I dont remember if I've posted this already but City does tours every Friday at 11am and 4pm. My husband and I went two Fridays back and fell in love with City. I don't know if the staff there are coached to answer all the questions right or what lol. But I was very happy to hear how pro natural they seem to be there and pro mom and baby. Allowing you to labor and deliver in the positions that are most comfortable, skin to skin contact within the first 30 minutes of birth, babies stay with mommy, pro breast feeding, etc. Also the quality of the rooms is up to par with American standards. It seems that perhaps you can walk into any hospital and ask for a tour though. I saw Welcare yesterday because I had to see a doctor due to these terrible headaches I've been having (she prescribed Magnesium btw which seems to be working because Tylenol did not). While I was pretty impressed with the doctor (Dr. Jennifer, American), I wasn't impressed at all with their labour and delivery rooms. They seemed old and the nursing staff was blah, it just didn't feel right to me. Then the entire maternity ward is on the ground floor very near to the exit which I just found to be peculiar in general. I mean you have to be buzzed in and out but it didn't make me feel to secure at all.

Hi everyone, just had my 12 week scan this week and all ok so thought i would join in. DD will be 20 months with No. 2 arrives so am really looking to having my hands full around the 23rd September. The nausea started going last week and this week am feeling much more myself so hope everyone is starting to come right as well. We are with Dr Elsa at City - Elsa delivered DD so it is lovely to have someone we already know to help us through this pregnancy. Take care edited by perkynana on 12/03/2013
