Hi, 3 more weeks to go here. Having my house deep cleaned this week and just trying to take it easy. I'm still going in to work 2-3 days per week which i find to be EXTREMELY tiring so am trying to do everything completely from home from here fwd. Not getting good sleep but maybe that's common for all of us here? My doc says at least 2 more weeks....so I'm counting on that to be true!

Just thought I would check in and see how everyone is going. We are going well, starting to slow down a bit - 4.5 weeks to go. All ready at home, not quite so organised at work so hope this little one goes full term so i can get everything sorted. Hope you are all doing well.

I'm so happy to hear such amazing things about DR Elsa. I wish I could have stayed in DXB and had my delivery with her, but it just wasn't the ideal situation with our toddler and me needing family for post delivery. If I do decide to go for a #3, it will definitely be with her! 32 weeks now- and feeling anxious to get this baby out lol

Perkynanana what is your experience in handing over the delivery from midwife to the doctor at City? We are with Dr Elsa who is a mum's dr so it was fantastic. Initally because my waters had broken midwife (the one I only had for an hour or so before shift change) warned me that the drs like to start induction in my situation. After calling Dr Elsa came back and said that being left to do it on my own was in my birth plan so no induction required. Dr Elsa popped in a couple of times to check on me, we had such a great bond with her we liked the fact she was with us. Midwife (number 2 and the one we really liked) helped me all the way through to getting ready for pushing and gave Dr Elsa a call to say that I was getting close. The midwife and Dr Elsa had such a great rapport it really felt like I was getting the best of both worlds - we even had a few laughs. Dr Elsa did take the lead but that was in my birth plan as I trusted her 100%. I was happy with how it all happened. I hope it will be as easy this time as with DD1.

Thank perkyana I did go for an antenatal class at the hospital yesterday and they have assured me of a midwife through my labour, so I'm more confident going without a doula now :) Great to hear. Our experience last time with midwives at City Hospital was fantastic. We had a really lovely lady who just let us go with the flow and was very unobtrusive but never far away if we needed her. I have it on my list for my Dr apt this week to see if she is still at the hospital and ask if there is anyway to request her again if she is on shift when I am delivering. One thing to note is that if you do go across shifts the midwives will change - we had two as my waters broke and we had to hang around a while - but the handover was great between them so it was seamless. I have a preference to midwife delivery with minimal assistance from a doctor, maybe just at the very end or so. However I have been informed that in City Hospital the doctor is the only one to deliver. I am a bit worried that a doctor will try to speed up the process by episotomy or even cause a tear by causing me to push faster as they are all on a tight schedule. My first baby was a long delivery and the midwife was amazing and when the Dr finally showed up, he asked me if I wanted him to take over or not, I said no lets let Lisa finnish what she started. He just popped in and out to hold my hand every once in a while. God bless dr George! loll Perkynanana what is your experience in handing over the delivery from midwife to the doctor at City?

Must arrange a coffee morning for us all. See you all soon, and happy incubating - lol I hear coffee mornings so often, do people really mean get together and drink coffee? I mean I've snuck probably 3 iced coffees this pregnancy but the last one affected me so much that I haven't touched a coffee. Before I was pregnant it didn't affect me at all, could drink a cup and go straight to bed but I was so jittery the last time it made me feel extremely uncomfortable and uneasy.

Almost30, 35 weeks that is really exciting. We are almost 33 weeks so a little bit longer to wait. I am feeling good and have my last work trip to UK after Eid and then will be Dubai bound for a few months. Where I am from Doula's are not that common so wont be asking one to join us. DH did well supporting me last time and I went a good period drug free thru that (I did have an epidural towards the end) so will be leaning on him again this time :-) There are a few threads on EW that have recommendations and if you join the q&A breast feeding FB page they talk about them there too. Must arrange a coffee morning for us all. See you all soon, and happy incubating - lol

hi ladies, hows everyone feeling. im at the start of my 35th weeks, so excited and nervous all the same. i wanted to check if anyone has decided to have a doula - not from the hospital during their labour/delivery. i am very keen to have a drug free delivery and am reading that doulas can really help with the process. Any reccommendations?

So I had my first appointment with Dr. Elsa today and I loved her! She was so in tune with me, took the time to go over my chart, asked a buuuuunch of questions. She's the first doctor I've seen in this country who wanted to know so much about my previous delivery and C-Section. She empathized with me AND actually agreed that I probably shouldn't have had to have a c-section if the baby or me weren't in any sort of distress (other doctors just made excuses for their fellow doctors). She is truly pro VBAC but she still tells it like it is.....lets you know if you want to do it you can but once you or the baby are at risk its off the table. I'm so grateful to have been able to get an appointment with her, the 4 month wait was well worth it and I'll definitely be sticking with her! :-)

So thats why I havent seen you in Pilates last few weeks Cleo. I keep recommending my doctor at CIty Hospital, her name is dr Azizunisa, she is the head of maternity at City Hospital and used to be the head of maternity at Al Wasl (now Latifah). For some reason I never see any recommendations for her but I think she is fantastic. And my previous pregnancy I had dr George so she had some pretty big ob-shoes to fill. ;-) That's super strange, I've never heard of Dr. Azizunisa. Dr. Brit referred me directly to Dr. Ann and I'd heard of Elsa from here....where is she from? I loved Latifah when I had to go there about two months ago because I wasn't getting any answers from City's Emergency Care. I was having contractions every 4 minutes and it turned out I had a UTI :-0 It doesn't look like the best hospital but the care there was GREAT! They were extremely thorough (even though they gave me a hard time about not having a file there). I even looked at switching to Latifah but I learned the Antenatal Package was 5000 (only 500 less than City) and I'd already paid for it at City. And they have shared rooms there, that's really a turn off...but yeah I was so impressed I'm sure any doctor that came from there is great. It is strange that Dr. Azizunisa is the head of maternity and not that popular. Maybe she doesn't take on as many patients as the rest of them (as she IS the head).

HI HUN! I'm back in Canada now because I planned to deliver here all along, but I was being followed by DR Elsa from week 5-28 and I loved her. I would suggest you keep your appointment and give her a shot. If I did choose to deliver with Dr. Elsa and stay in Dubai, she was extremely supportive of me trying for a VBAC. She listened, gave me her honest opinions and advice and said it to me like it was all while being very supportive of what I wanted. She told me what she would and would not do, but made it clear that safety and me and my baby would be priority. I highly recommend her even if you will be at 34 weeks, she's a lovely person and a fantastic DR! Thanks Cleo for the feedback :-) I decided to cancel my appt with my regular doctor for today and just keep the one with Elsa on Tuesday. Hopefully everything will go smoothly :-) I have a six year old myself and we definitely need all the extra help we can get! Good Luck!!

Does anybody see Dr. Elsa at City?? I initially was seeing Dr Britt but as she won't be in town around my due date she had to refer me to a different doc. I asked for a referral for Dr. Elsa but I think it was easier for the nurses to put me with Dr. Ann as her schedule was more free. So I've been seeing Dr. Ann from about week 15 to 30. I finally was taken off of Dr. Elsa's waiting list and given an appointment at the end of this month but now I'm having second thoughts about switching doctors this late (I'll be 33 or 34 weeks when I see Dr. Elsa)> Dr Ann is fine, but I dont feel any connection to her really at all. She's pro VBAC in the sense that she didn't really protest when I told her I wanted a VBAC. I just want to make sure I have a doctor who's going to be on my side when I'm in labour, not one trying to push me towards another c-section and I've read soooo many things about Dr. Elsa being super pro VBAC. perkynana (Im reluctant to ask what that means...) thanks for your valuable input. So many women see Dr. Elsa and speak just as you have of her. I'm definitely going to the appointment and most likely switching to her. I understand that most of the time will be with the midwives, but to have a doctor that I know is on my side is key because as you said, the midwives do what the doctor tells them to.

ummzarinah, we are with Dr Elsa and adore her. She delivered DD1 and will be supporting us with DD2 in September. She is great to talk to, will tell you straight what is happening and what she recommends and is really pro Mum and I found pro my choices ie for DD1 arrived at hospital not long after my waters broke and nurse told me the "normal process" of induction etc to speed things up in these situations and once she had spoken to Elsa I was left to do things naturally just like Elsa and I had planned. Her focus was making sure that I enjoyed my pregnancy and delivery which I found such a great approach. Friends are with her too and supported ones plans for a VBAC - ended up being a C-Section but that was a joint decision at the time rather than pushing them one way or the other. Just so you know she is away for Eid but only a few days and here all of September. So, can highly recommend her but important that you are comfortable with the person you are going to. In reality you will only see the Dr 30-60 minutes at the time of birth most of your time is with the midwives etc.

Well I only saw Dr. Britt once, long enough for her to refer me to another doc. I did like her as she is extremely knowledgeable and you can tell just by having one conversation with her. So yeah I did like her....she wasn't really pro VBAC though

I was with dr Britt and loved her, she referred me to a new obs who is like a clone of dr Britt but even nicer at mediclinic Dubai mall. She is lovely, a little older but fab!! Her name is dr annika, she only arrived about 3 months ago so always available.... Just a thought if you we're disappointed that dr Britt left x

Great news everyone - the lovely EW ladies are starting a Saturday coffee morning after Ramadan but to help us catch up with plenty of time ahead of our gorgeous bubs arriving they are going to do one before Ramadan. It will be advertised today on the website but basically it is at 9.30am this Saturday at Dubai Mall (all details will come from EW). So I am hoping as many of you can join us this weekend - don't forget to find me (Leanne) so we can get everyone's contact details so we can keep in touch through Ramadan. Hi Everybody :) I have just moved to Dubai from England 10 days ago so trying to reach out and make some friends as I am 27 weeks pregnant (due 6 September). I already have a daughter who is nearly 11 and have been working hard trying to get her into a school which appears to be a huge task! I am completely clueless about hospitals so any advice there would be great. I have just purchased a 28wk plus package and have my scan on Saturday and then my first consultation on Monday. Don't really know what I should be expecting to happen! If anyone has some spare time and would like to befriend me please get in touch. Hi zerotrace - hope you're feeling more settled and happy with the setup? Where are you planning on delivering? I don't attend the coffee mornings midweek beacuse I'm at work - we keep asking for a Saturday one, but no luck yet! :)
