Hello, I had issues with my fasting sugar during my last pregnancy. I had to start insulin, every night at bedtime one shot. I tried all kinds of combos for snacks before bedtime. what worked most of the time is peanut butter and crackers, or ice cream. However what I had to realize is that fasting sugar elevates due to my pregnancy hormones (insulin resistance) not because of my diet. (the more pregnant i was the more I had to increase my insulin dosage) So in the end try the different combs and if they are not working don't hesitate to start the insulin. this will ensure even sugar distribution for your baby, and thus you will end up with a healthy pregnancy, healthy mommy and healthy baby. Let me know if this helps and if you have any other questions.
After delivery my sugar returned to normal, and when on insulin I stuck to a healthy diet.(lots of fruits and vegetables, whole grain carbs, etc) (many small meals during the day)
though I was on insulin at night for last 9 weeks... I found that having peanut butter or cracker helped me with morning sugar level. but each body's response is different but ice cream surely didnt help. having dinner at same time every day also regulates insulin...
Hi ladies,
I'm about 33 weeks gone now and just over 2 weeks ago I did the GD test. My doc said my numbers weren't high enough to be considered GD but still a concern. She asked me to buy a kit to monitor my bloods , which I've done since . My day time readings are fine but am finding it very difficult to get the morning readings below 100 ( doc says they need to be <95) . I've tried different solutions such as having a proteins/carb snack at bedtime, getting up during the night and having a snack and even having some ice-cream before bed ( some ladies on a uk pregnancy forum) but still no joy. I just wondered if anyone out there was in the same boat or has rectified the problem without having to take insulin. Also feeling a bit annoyed by the fact that nobody ( neither my doc or the endocrinologist ) has offered any real practical or nutritional advice , anything I've learned (and I'm totally new to this) has been through reading up on it. I met with the endo' a few days ago and he is giving me one week to get the fasting sugars down or if not will need an insulin shot at night . I do realize that sometimes this is the only solution to stab aliasing BS levels but feel like I've been given very little time , guidance on how this can be achieved through diet/ exercise.
Any tips , experiences, advice great received xoxo
