This might be a silly question but...does anyone know whether the vitamin a that is added to all the milk in the UAE is harmful during pregnancy? I thought you were meant to avoid vitamin A when pregnant but here it seems they add it to all milk so its difficult to avoid!

Can anyone recommend a good gynaecologist - preferably a British trained one?

Apparently the way in to her clinic she said the other day on my routine check up ( not pregnant and been there done caesarean at AH and then fab VBAC with Dr Elsa) is to email her or her nurse and they try and slot you in to the emergency slots if you are prepared to get in on short notice.

Thank you - I expect you are right and am just worrying myself for no reason. I am just not used to vitamins being added to milk! I have now made an appointment with a Dr so will confirm but your responses are reassuring in the meantime! Sadly Dr Elsa was booked up until May so have to try someone else.

Don't worry, you should be fine drinking milk.as said before, the supplements with vitamin A are what you need to avoid. With the amounts added to the milk you would have to drink 1 and a quarter liters of milk to reach the daily limit for pregnant women. But please ask your Dr for more details, I would be interested what he/she has to say. I have never heard to watch out for the vitamin A in milkin both my pregnancies. You shouldn't eat any liver because of vitamin A overdose, but never heard about fortified milk

are you sure vit A is added to the milk, I thought it was just vit D?. Some of the long-life milks are less fortified from memory but unless you are drinking bucket-loads I'm sure having the RDA of vit A is fine, its the mega-doses in some supplements that are the problem.

My understanding was that a little vitamin A was okay, and even necessary, but not too much so you should avoid any supplements which have vitamin A in them. However, don't take anyones word for it as this kind of advice really needs to come from a professional rather than a forum! As for a British trained gynae, then Dr Elsa at City Hospital was good (and still is by the reviews on here) when I saw her 2 years ago. Yes, Dr Elsa is the best ... and she even recognized my twins - a full year after she delivered them!
