singarosa, I'am very sorry you had such an awful time, I'm not a doctor but the placenta being left behind is something of course shouldnt have happened, I think I know who your doctor is and if I'm right then she also looked after me for my last two pregnancies, she is extremely expierenced in obstetrics and specialises in high risk pregnancies, I cannot rate her highly enough, I recommeded her to three of my friends and they love her, she is direct, she is not a hand holder, she is calm and knows her stuff, for her to speak to you like that and through a file at you tells me she must have been extremely frustrated, it is quite out of character in my opinion, if she told me she needed to deliver I would never dreamt of questioning her, I trust her implicitly. with my last child he turned to the breach position at 37 weeks and I therefore had to have a c section, she would not enteratain attempting to turn him, which was fine by me I trusted her, it was the best decision in the end as my little boy was born with a GBS infection and was seriously ill, he is fine now, my c section was perfect, I recovered very well, and my scar is virtually gone two years on. Babies are not kep in NICU unneccessarily, so obviously they're was a reason for that. Regarding the placent and the bleeding, it sounds horrendous, you have had a horrible time, and it clearly should not have happended, you still seem very traumatised by the last years events and sometimes the anger lingers on, please don't let it spoil the times now that you are feeling better and if you need to get help or talk to someone.

I don't think it is fair to pick holes in the OP's comments. It is fair to say she had a very unsavoury relationship with her Dr., in hindsight, she should have found herself a new practitioner. I also don't agree with the 'please always trust your doctor' stance, I have learned from experience that they don't always know best ! If I had trusted my Dr.'s, it is unlikely I would be here now. Same with a high risk pregnancy, if I had trusted the doctor my DD might not be here. My Mom is not here now because she trusted her Dr. That being said, in both of my cases I got 2nd and 3rd opinions and did follow the advice of the medical profession. I didn't just make a decision based on my own 'instinct' or google diagnosis, that would have been foolhardy, in my opinion. By the way, I also had a Dr. tell me, post surgery, that I had given him and the surgery team, a huge scare during surgery and that the atmosphere during the surgery became very high-charged and he didn't sleep that night, so you don't have to be awake to know what happened, obviously her Dr. told her what went on. OP, I am sorry you have had such a poor experience, I hope you can move on now and enjoy your baby and put all this behind you.

I stand by what I wrote. Too often we rush to give doctors a bad rap. We dont know the details of the case and no doctor would push for the birth of a low weight baby without reason. edited by Redrec Tangle on 11/10/2013

Singarosa, Im gald your baby is well and you are on the road to recovery, but perhaps you could rethink your next move regarding your complaint because it could be said that you and your husband were more of a danger to your baby than the Dr you're determined to hang out to dry. [b'>Thank goodness you didn't name her.[/b'>Yes, you shouldnt have been left needing a D&C months after your delivery, but you should be thanking your lucky starts that your Dr was as straight to the point with you as she was, and that what she said prompted you into having your baby by C-Section. She must have been feeling pretty exasperated with things based on her experience to have thrown your file across her desk. We think of ourselves as so well informed nowadays but sometimes the little bit of information we do actually have in reality can be a very dangerous thing indeed. Its really obvious you're still very upset and Im sorry about that, and I hope things settle for you soon - but even the language you use to describe your D&C is very emotional because unless you were awake during the D&C how do you know the Dr was freaking out? And if she was freaking out - what does it say about her freaking out in a situation when she is supposed to be calm, in control, and in charge? The surgeon is supposed to re-assure the patient even when the most awful things are going wrong - not be freaking out. As I said Im really sorry you are feeling so bad about things, I'd hate for one of my girls to have gone through this, but please try and read your posts again because they really do say more about your emotions and ill informed judgements regarding your pregnancy and baby than anything else. And by all means complain about the placenta being left behind but please please please be aware of how you come across when doing it. I would be really concerned about you right now if you were one of my girls. edited by DesertRose1958 on 10/10/2013 edited by DesertRose1958 on 10/10/2013 she did.

I don't think that Singarosa, or anyone for that matter, should "always trust your doctor"! I think that it is very important not to be pushed around by drs, if they are advising a procedure and u are unsure, dont be afraid to ask more questions, get a second opinion. It's Singarosas body, and her childs, im sure she was only doing what she believed to be in their best interests! I think that most ladies have a good understanding about their own body, and can recognize when things don't feel right.. If Singarosas dr had had her way, her baby would have been born at 900 grams instead of 1.8kgs.. Singarosa was told that everything else was fine inside, apart from babies rate of weight gain... Obviously someone was giving her the information that she still had the choice to continue the pregnancy, hoping for more weight gain, even if her dr was pushing for delivery.. That is her choice to make. Singarosa, I wish u all the best for your complaint against the dr, both for her incompetence in completing the delivery and also for her dangerous nonchalance with regard to ur concern over ur exsessive bleeding. Mostly I hope u can put this horrible experience behind u and enjoy ur beautiful family now that u are being taken care of by a trustworthy dr.

I have mixed feelings reading your account. please always trust your doctor! If God forbid something had happened in that one week you decided to wait I wonder if your complaint against Dr.H would be that she DIDNT force you to get baby out! However with the heavy bleeding post-partum, it seems due care was NOT taken by your doctor. We dont know the doctors' version of the events. From the start it seems you had a particular idea as to how your pregnancy/delivery should go and resisted against any developments to the contrary. Having been through a difficult birth experience that was far from ideal, I can understand how low you must be feeling, if I were you I would concentrate on your family and begin to heal and be happy. I am just glad your baby is safe, actually.

My heart goes out to you too. As someone who is not in the medical industry, I would expect the professionals to tell me that I have that (IUGR) and not being pushed around. And being told in a nice comforting tone especially since I've just given birth. OP, I would complain to the medical board or any governing body here for the stress the medical team has given me. Take care and kiss the lil precious one for me x

As an ex NICU nurse I was glad to read that you finally agreed to the delivery when you did. Doctors do not tell you these things to stress or scare you but rather because it is the truth. Also a baby with severe IUGR and in a breech position would have been an extremely high risk for normal delivery especially with a primigravida mother(first birth). Babies are not kept in NICU when there is no need for them to be there- the pressure on bed spaces is always too high for that. IUGR babies often have problems with temperature control, feeding and low blood sugar and are at risk for infections and they need careful monitoring because of this. You really would do well to educate yourself regarding the risks of IUGR ( especially severe IUGR) if you plan any future pregnancies.

My heart goes out to you, Singarosa. I received negligent care with my first pregnancy and miscarriage and I know how horrifying and frustrating it can be. It is so traumatic to know that something is wrong, tell your doctor something is wrong and then be brushed aside only to find out later that you were, in fact, correct--there was something wrong and your pleas were being ignored. I think you have every right to question the care you were giving my Dr. H and the fact that she never investigated and treated your heavy post partum bleeding. It sounds like you are very lucky that you didn't get an infection and a whole lot sicker. I also know that's no consolation for the horrible year you've suffered due to the poor care. I urge you to educate yourself about IUGR and find a new doctor you can trust if/when you decide to expand your family. My understanding is that with one IUGR baby you are at a higher likelihood of the same condition with future pregnancies. IUGR isn't something to take lightly. It is very serious and can be life threatening to the baby. You also know now that you have a high risk for post partum depression which is very common and very treatable. Being proactive and addressing it quickly with future babies will be critical. You are very, very fortunate to have conceived this baby with PCOS. Everyone I know who has it has really struggled and few have gotten pregnant naturally without medication or fertility treatments. I wish you a speedy recovery so you can move on from this and enjoy your family.

I was just happy it stopped because I was starting to have such bad cramps, extremely moody and my poor DH had to put up with it and on top of all that I was pumping every 4 hours.. I just wanted to be there for my DH and DD. I neglected my DH a lot, I was just depressed, angry and very frustrated.. always tired, always dizzy.. thank God I had time off work for 5 months. So life went on and I was just so happy my period did not come back.. right it did come back 2 months later but it was like a normal period and lasted 7 days.. Again the following month same thing, lasted for 5 days this time.. then the following month nothing.. I thought I was pregnant but before I know it 2nd week of Ramadan it came back with REVENGE.. it was the most horrible thing ever, the cramps were un bearable.. I lived in the bathroom.. could not go out could not go anywhere.. the bathroom was my friend.. going to work was torture.. cleaning, cooking was excruciating. Ramadan ended and I still had my period, on the 3rd day of Eid it finally stopped.. my happiness didn’t last long 3 days later it came back again, and the clots were getting bigger and bigger.. I was losing a lot of blood but I neglected myself.. on the 24th of Sept I decided ENOUGH IS ENOUGH so I went to see another Dr. in AD. In her clinic, I was waiting because I didn’t get an appt I was on the waiting list, I was in so much pain, bleeding everywhere.. I dirtied my jeans, blood was everywhere.. I started crying from the cramps, and the dr took me in immediately when she saw that.. I was put on the ultrasound immediately and that is when she told me your uterus wall is soo thick.. it was 3.64 cm when it should have been like 0.6.. and that my uterus looked like I was 10 weeks pregnant.. I wasn’t of course since I had my period for most of the year.. she scheduled me in for D&C immediately.. she said it was bits and pieces left from your pregnancy a year ago.. I was in so much shock.. she said it was pieces of placenta being left there.. I thought I was going to throw up from hearing the news.. The next day I had the D&C, they took what they got out of me for testing.. and after the operation I feel so much better, bleeding has stopped but I lost a lot of blood so I go weekly for my Iron IV, my hormones are messed up but they told me to get my iron and VitD back to normal and probably my hormones will also adjust itself.. and I have thyroid deficiency.. When the Dr was doing the operation she was freaking out of what was coming out and she said that my uterus was so huge and very weak.. Im still recovering from the shock.. and was told to rest my uterus and not to think of any babies just yet.. I can’t believe how my whole year was ruined because of her, I was never happy in that 1 year.. but I am so much better now.. and can’t wait to get back on track with life.. I’m getting the official results today so that I can file a complaint for both emotional and physical distress.. it was not easy for me nor my family.. my DH was trying everything he could to cheer me up.. planning outings, gifts, surprises and I was always so moody and angry.. I feel so horrible.. but I will get my right.. and I will tell everyone about Dr. H and what she made me go through.. Sorry for being so long.. this is a summary of what I went through.. I did not write everything.. and please excuse my grammar and abbreviations as I did not proof read hehe.. I am ready to answer any Qs. But I have a drs appt now.. I hate how I have to go to drs a lot now.. and to hospitals to get injected every single week.. NOT FUN.. my hands are bruised.. PFFFFTTTT !!!!!!!!!

Here goes, Before I get married I went to my first gyn doctor ever in Medcare. The reason I went is because my period is very irregular and I thought I’d rather go visit a doctor now to see if there is wrong than to wait it out. When I went she made so many tests on me and found that I have PCOS. She told me when I get married it will be very difficult to have babies, so when I decide I want babies, I should go see her and then she will put me on medication.. I thought whatever, and she’s full of b*ll. I got married 6 months later and thought I didn’t want to wait to have babies because I love the idea of young parents. I started freaking out when it didn’t work out immediately and then remembered what the doctor said but I didn’t go to her. I just tried to relax and enjoy each moment and if I get pregnant that would be great if not then we will keep trying. Little did I know 5 months after being married I got pregnant. I could not believe it.. was so happy and thought to myself why are doctors so mean to jump to horrible conclusions and put us ladies in such a tense and stressed out state. 6 weeks later I started bleeding; I was freaking out and thought I was losing my baby. Went to another gyn in Sharjah who everyone told me is good. She checked for a heartbeat and for the first time ever I heard my baby’s heart beat. It was the most amazing feeling ever and I just burst into tears. She gave me pills to take to help with the bleeding and to protect my baby. It was only for 2 weeks then everything was fine. I started looking for Drs in AD because that is where we are living but we go every weekend to Dubai. Anyways, I found a doctor in Al Noor Hospital and kept going to her for 6 months. Everything was going great and she told me that I was having a boy, until she told me that my baby is growing very slow and that my due date has changed from 26th Sept to 10th of Oct. I was like WHAT ?!?! how is that even possible.. I never knew that due dates can change.. yes I understand that it is not very accurate when they give you a due date but 2 weeks was a bit too much. So I researched and researched until I came to expatwoman and found a doctor that was highly recommended here in EW.... let’s call her Dr. H. of course it took me like 2 months to get in with her. When I went to see her, I gave her the full history, told her about how they changed my due date etc etc. she took me in for a scan where I was told I’m actually having a girl not a boy. I was sad for like 5 mins because I got everything in blue and in boyish colors but then I was so happy. That was not the problem I just wanted my baby to be healthy. They did tell me the baby is small but they are going to keep my due date as the 26th of Sept. days go by and the dr calls me in again for an appt. I was 8 months pregnant and my DD weighed 900 gs but she was growing and moving I could feel her. The doctor was determined to get her out but my DH and I refused because everything was fine, it was only her low weight.. but other than that there was enough water, the blood pressure was good, the pulse.. everything.. so there was no reason to get her out of her womb just yet. She gave me steroid shots just in case something happens and scheduled me in for a full detailed scan in fetal development. After waiting for 2 hours I was finally in. The doctor who did my scan was extremely rude I hated him and just wanted to get out of there. He did the scan and said everything is fine thank God. They called it an IUGR case, and again my DH and I decided against early delivery if nothing is going bad. On the 15th of Sept my baby has reached 1.8 Kgs, she doubled in her size and Dr. H was still determined to get her out. I told her I could feel my baby move, and her heartbeat is fine, the water is fine so why do you want to take her out. It’s better that she grows in my womb than in a stupid incubator. She got so mad and said if your baby dies don’t blame me. HOW COULD I DR TELL YOU THAT.. WHY CAUSE SO MUCH STRESS IF EVERYTHING SEEMS FINE. I GOT SO MAD.. but it was too late to change drs now.. I had an appointment after 7 days.. so I went on the 22nd of Sept for my appointment and when they did the scan, my baby was still 1.8 Kgs, she did not grow for the past week.. the dr got so mad threw my reports on her desk and said you better get your baby out now or she will die.. DH and I decided okay let’s do this now.. I was scheduled for emergency CS 3 hours later. I really wanted to give birth naturally but she did not allow it.. she told me the baby is too small and she was breach and she didn’t want to risk it.. I told her can we at least try.. she just said NO and started calling city hospital to schedule the CS. At 326 PM I heard my baby scream for the first time and I was filled with emotions.. they didn’t let me hold her :’( they took her immediately to NICU and she weighed 1.8 KGs, I was so sad, full of tears and just wanted to get out of here to go to her. I told my DH to go with the baby and to keep his eyes on her, while they finished stitching me up. And that’s when I thought now I can enjoy motherhood. No more doctors messing with my head just because they can. But of course not, nothing is that easy. I didn’t see my baby till next day, no one helped me with BF, so I couldn’t BF, I pumped from day 1 till she was 6 months (the reason I stopped is because I had mastitis and it was so painful and I just couldn’t do it anymore). Anyways, back to my story. The doctor came to visit me just ask how I am and then left.. she didn’t check the wound didn’t check ANYTHING. DH fought with all the drs to get my baby out of NICU because thank God she was doing fine.. breathing on her own, sucking, pooping.. EVERYTHNG.. SO JUST GET HER OUT OF THERE.. after 3 days we won the battle and my baby was with me in the room.. I couldn’t be happier.. I tried BF on my own and it just didn’t work out.. she was soo tiny, I was so emotional and crying all day.. and my bust is huge.. it just didn’t work out.. 4 days later I was going home.. I went to my parents house, since my DH had to go back to work in AD.. I was in such a bad state, the bleeding was unbelievable.. it was not normal at all.. I went into depression, I couldn’t feed her I couldn’t do anything.. I was in such a bad state and felt so weak.. 2 weeks later, the bleeding was getting worse, the depression worse, and I had 1 week until my next appt with Dr. H. I made it to 3 weeks, but my bleeding was getting worse. I told the doctor that I had a very bad case of depression and the bleeding is not stopping.. she said not to worry.. and wait till 6 weeks and I should start getting better.. But I wasn’t I was just too tired.. the depression started fading away as soon as I got back to my house in AD.. I was feeling much better that I was with my DH in my own home and started our lives with our tiny beautiful bundle of joy.. the bleeding stopped on the 6th week and I was so happy because it was the most uncomfortable feeling every.. I would go to the bathroom every 10 mins to change because of how heavy the bleeding was. The following sat I had an appt for a pap smear. She checked my scar and was so happy how it was getting better.. I told her that the bump on my scar doesn’t seem right.. she said yeah yeah that will go away don’t worry. I got my pap smear and was on my way home when I felt that I was bleeding again.. I was so frustrated I called her up and was told oh its normal for it to be irregular.. 2 months later and I am still bleeding.. I had enough.. it was not normal bleeding my huge hand size clots bleeding (sorry for being disgusting). And I was like okay enough of this.. I took an appt with Dr H and went to see her (I don’t know why I kept going to her).. she gave me an ultrasound, and found nothing.. she said you seem fine but take this medicine (Duphaston) and it should stop the bleeding within 3 days.. I started the medication, and after 3 days I sent her a message telling her the bleeding has not stopped.. she said to give it time so I did.. it stopped after 11 days..:(

Hi Singarosa, please feel free to vent. No need to name the Dr. here if it is against the rules of this forum, but just talking about it will help and you'll receive some moral suppport from the ladies on this forum. You may even get a different perspective on things and if nothing else, you'll feel better and you may even be able to cope better with the situation. definitely will.. the ladies need to know.. and this should not happen to any new mother or any mother for that matter if she has children to take care off.. i just don't wish this to happen to anyone..

But if you are so unhappy, please do make an official complaint - not sure where or to who, but Dubai Health Authority would be best place to start. yeah i don't think i will name her but i am pretty sure the ladies will know who i am talking about.. i'm actually making a complaint.. but i need all the official results which i will get tomorrow.. so i am just waiting for that.. i will do everything i can.. it really was a horrible year.. and having to go to hospitals almost once every week is really tiring and takes a lot of time..
