oh and cheese and yoghurt can be constipating for some people too. Take it all away and once things are "moving" you can add things back in one by one to see if they are causing problems. If she has been constipated for a while she might be "holding it in" out of habit to avoid painful motions, so using softeners for a short time until she is confident it won't hurt might help.
Brilliant thank you! Yep we have used glycerine suppositories many times but cannot anymore need to just change her diet as she will be on this medication for a long time :(

Yep...BRAT diet.
When constipated, avoid Bananas Rice Apples and Toast.
When 'loose', encourage Bananas Rice Apples and Toast.
Note: very ripe bananas help get things moving; green bananas block things up.
Eating ripe peaches, plums and apricots every day. Stewed prunes. Avoiding starchy foods (potato, rice, pasta, bread, corn) making sure bananas are ripe to the point there are brown spots on yellow skins.
Very ripe bananas can help; some swear by a little brown sugar dissolved in water; prune juice definitely works.
If all else fails, glycerine suppositories are easy to use and work a treat. You can by them over the counter at pharmacies.
Hope the poor poppet is more comfortable soon.
My 4 year old DD has been very constipated since going on some new medication which she has to has every day unfortunately :( I have tried Duphalac sachets (which I got in SA - don't even know if you can get it here) but have'nt been very successful, it's either the same or the acts like a laxative - has anyone used anything to help there constipated child become regular?
