Want to know how to make your own make-up remover pads, without spending a fortune? Here's a how-to from Katie Wright...

A couple of months ago, I was sent a pot of pre-soaked cleanser pads, which are designed for fast and easy skin cleansing and make-up removal.

I gave them a go and was instantly hooked – each thin, round pad gave me just the right amount of cleanser to remove all my mascara and eye make-up, whereas using a face wipe for the same purpose seemed wasteful because I only used a tiny portion of the whole surface.

But when the pot was empty, I couldn’t bring myself to part with the AED 80 required to replace it. I could easily grab some cotton wool and eye make-up remover, after all, but loved the convenience of the pre-soaked pads.

So I decided to make my own. My homemade pads cost just 30 fils each, I’ve calculated, so a pot of 60 would cost AED 17. And they were so easy to make.

Here’s how I did it.

DIY Make-Up Remover Pads

You will need:

  • Micellar water
  • Cotton wool round pads
  • An airtight container

1. I wanted an effective but affordable make-up remover so I chose B Pure Micellar Water. Wash your hands thoroughly so that the pads remain clean throughout.

2. Take your container and put a few cotton pads in the bottom. Pour a generous glug of micellar water over them, then place the next few pads on top – about three or four at a time. I used 20 in total.

3. Continue until the container is full, then press the pads down so the micellar water soaks through thoroughly. Add a bit extra if you need to.

4. That’s it. You’ve now got a pot of pre-soaked make-up remover pads that won’t dry out as long as your container stays sealed when it’s closed. Quick, convenient and less than a quarter of the price of the branded version. They’re a beauty bargain.
