MrsL, just came back to this because another thread had set me thinking - so here goes
antibiotics can equal yeast infections and yeast infections can equal behavioural issues.
its just something I've recalled from a friend of mines who's an autism biomedder.
hth :)
MrsL. over the years I've come across many mums on a forum I belong to who've said this about their children - but then just as many say its because the child isnt well and nothing to do with the medication.
hth :)
I am so pleased DS is not the only one. DH said this morning - "where has my well behaved boy gone" fortunately today is day 5, of a 5 day dose. I am going to keep him home from school tomorrow and then he can go back - it has been an exhausting 5 days!!
YES!!! DS is rarely, ever sick so never has to take meds. A few months back (when we were in the US) he was put on an antibiotic for a fingernail infection and the first day he was literally jumping off the back of the couch onto the floor and practically climbing the walls. He's never done that before. He was so spun up it was like he couldn't even catch his breath to talk fast enough. I talked to the pharmacist about it and he insisted it wasn't the antibiotics but the only thing different was the meds he was on. It was like having a caged animal in the house that had been let loose.
I always assumed that it was partly the fever and infection that caused the problems as well
Although anti-bs have bad effects on the "good" stomach bacteria so the child may be suffering from acute toxic "die-off " symptoms - we always give live yoghurt
Although we really try to limit anti-biotics to very serious infections only rather than run of the mill coughs. colds and sore throats - they only take them once in every 2-3 years
Happens with my son, but he has a known sensitivity to artificial additives (which are typically present in most medications - in fact some meds even include the worst offenders, [url=http://www.foodprocessing.com/articles/2010/colorants.html'>the Southampton Six[/url'>, which affect a lot of children). We avoid them as far as possible, but with abx it's obviously the old benefit-risk thing and we just have to grin and bear it for a few days.

DS started antibiotics end of last week, and I swear ever since he has been all over the place, naughty, grumpy, emotional.......a real joy to be around.
Does anyone else notice this?
