Hi All,

I've been out of the Emirates for about 3 or 4 years now, but have recently been offered an interview for Emirates Airlines in the English department. What kind of salary/benefits should I expect these days? They mentioned either an accommodation allowance or accommodation in their employee housing...does anyone know anything about this?

Any advice/info much appreciated as I'm really out of touch with the goings on in the UAE these days :D

Claire

I applied to 2 L&D positions with Emirates and received an email today about a telephone interview on Thursday. I have not worked with an airline before as I've always been in the education field, in one form or another. I am a teeny bit nervous as I have not been interviewed for a position since 1998, although I have been recruiting and interviewing for years and years. Clairey1, how was your interview? I wonder if it is for the same position? :-)

Thanks ladies. All advice much appreciated - at least I know what to expect now! I'm not sure what grade the position is as it's not just a bog standard English teacher, but a Language Specialist with additional business related responsibilities. Will have to wait and see I guess unless grade 7 applies to the whole department. Without blowing my trumpet, I'm very well qualified in the field of English language teaching and have lots of managerial experience so hopefully things will go in my favour! Cafe au Lait - have emailed you so you can delete you email address now if you like :D Thanks again! Claire x

Gorobattie, Grumpy is right; the grade system works across departments and the departments do not have the flexibility to offer different benefits. Grade 7s do not have access to the Emirates clinic. There is medical cover but you have to go to outside doctors, just as you did as a Grade 6. You're also out of date with your 'every 6 months', it's now quarterly for the accomodation allowance.

Hi Clair, It really difficult to determine or tell what exactly you are expecting, each department in Emirates and Danata have it's own benefits and this goes to the salary - sure-... they have the Grade system, which means grade 1 is less than 2, grade2 is less than 3 and so on... You said you are going to be in the English department ??? is it a teaching job? assuming so, if it is, then you will be grade 7, that entitle you for benefits, like free emirates clinic for you DH and children - not sure about how much you will be entitled for child(ren) tuition fees payed by the company, how much you will be entitled for the accommodation allowance: a) if you decided to take the money, you will take it every 6 months or b) if you got the company provided accommodation, which you don't pay DEWA at all, enjoying the free mind of watching the bill :D, in this case you need to provide how many ppl will be living with you ( you, DH,how many child whether inside uae or out of uae, house maid, mother or father) then as per this they will provide you with apartment .... initially as grade 7 you are entitled for 2 bedroom apartment, but if you have a big family, they will give you 3 or 4 bedroom apt) again I insist that every department have different entitlement for it's employee, and the entitlement for the grades still defer. So good luck and hope this post give you some hints about what to expect. You are quite correct in that the benefits are grade specific, however, a grade 7 is not enititled to use the Emirates clinic, and no tuition fees are paid for a corporate grade 7. Also, a grade 7 is only able to take a one bed apt with or without family. OP, you may want to find out which grade you are applying for as it could be 7 or 8, 8 has many more benefits, which increase into managerial grades 9. 10 and into VP, SVP etc A dear friend of mine she was hired as Grade 7, then after 6 months got the grade 8, I have seen list of benefits - we were apt mates and yet the best friends ever - and in her department she was offered the emirates clinic and the tuition fees... Again I say I was in different department and Grade 6 and didn't get those benefits, but actually got the clinic only for me- not free but have a top to be spent on me - and no other dependents at all. Again, One more time, it depends on which department and which grade as well, In Emirates Group, don't think you all grade whatsoever, still you are all so much different.... that was my post is stating.... To OP, good luck knowing exactly what you are offered.

Thanks Gorobattle, that's really helpful. Do you know where the Emirates employee accommodation is? It's just me (no DH or children) so wouldn't want to be out in the sticks! Do you think it's a good job to take if offered? I don't know what the employee situation is like so would be interested to know.

It is all explained on their website www.emiratesgroupcareers.com/. It depends on the job, family situation and the grade. Good luck with the interview.
