I need to get a copy of my UK passport certified (in order to open an overseas bank account).

Has anyone done this - what is the best/quickest/most cost effective way to do this?

Any advice gratefully received......

TIA:)

Thanks, everybody. I guess no cheap options for this.
Hi all, Stuck on the same issue of true certified copies. I need some true certified copies (passports, emirates ID etc.) for visa purposes. Can I get the photocopies certified by a UK solicitor, or does the solicitor have to be a UAE courts solicitor? TIA Shalini

I've had this done by Everys Solicitors at the Fairmont office tower on SZR. It just took a couple of minutes and I think the cost was either 200dh or 300dh. I can't remember. FFx

Reviving this post as I need a true copy of our passports for the same purpose as OP. Checked with my embassy and they don't do it. Checked with Dubai Courts and they don't do passports. Now need a lawyer to do it. Any recommendation near Sheikh Zayed Road, please. Thank you in advance. (Or Sandfly, if you read this post, will you be available?)

Yes we had to do this for a South African bank account and they accepted the Bank Manager here in Dubai's signature, wording and stamp...

or if you know a solicitor they can do it. if you are able to make it to Mirdif/Garhoud, I can certify a copy for you (free :) ) post your email and I will contact you (but logging off now so it had better be tomorrow - or someone who knows my email address could send it to me off line. one of these days I will get myself an email I don't mind posting!

Your consulate or embassy should be able to certify a passport copy. DH had to get his done in order to apply for a work permit. He went to the US consulate (as he is US citizen). It took only a couple of minutes and cost a few hundred dirhams. But they only have this service on certain days and times, so better check with them before.

Do you mean a 'true copy' of your passport? For AML purposes typically financial institutions will ask to see an original and will take a photocopy certified as 'original seen and valid' themselves (i.e. not just any old photocopy which could have been photoshopped). When opening an account long distance it is not feasible to send your original identity documents so they will request that they are certified as a 'true copy of the original' by a competent authority or the like. Such as a registered solicitor in England & Wales etc. Here you can take it to the issuing country's consulate and they should issue a true copy. (P.S. I work in Compliance so I am the one on the other side asking for these seemingly ridiculous documents!) :)

Thanks salsB. We are being asked for this in order to comply with regulations for opening a bank account in Luxemourg. (I believe it is to comply with anti money laundering requirements). Basically as they cannot verify who you say you are in person they need a copy of current passport (UK citizen) which has been certified to confirm that you are who you say you are.....

Never heard of a passport being certified before???? Is this to open a bank account in Dubai. Do you have your residency. Are you on your own work visa?
