I'd like to know if there are any conditions for an Australian, who has been living abroad, to study at univeristy in Australia. I'm thinking of a requirement such as having to have spent the last 2(?3) years at home in Australia, as perthe rule in the UK

I've tried googling it but have not been able to find out. Thank you!

Thanks Twokids. There's been a lot of discussion on here about the requirement to have been resident in the UK before Uni so as not to face higher fees that I started to wonder about Oz. I'm just trying to see what all our options are at the moment.

Hi, just looked up my old university and it states that you have to be a citizen in order to defer payments ie HECS and need a TFN. http://fees.curtin.edu.au/ecaf.cfm#permvisa

DS is doing on line studies thru aust. All they wanted from him was his tax file number so they can get their money back when he starts work. Easy to get TFN on the net.

Thanks, tamieg. I'm thinking ahead for the kids. One child now in grade 10 who will probably want to do an undergrad degree through HECS. I could not find any mention of residency when I searched and it made me wonder if there was just maybe no such rule. I asked my nephew who works for a gov organisation and he sathought you just need to be a citizen but I wanted to check on here, as it's the best place for info.

I'm doing a Masters at Macquarie and had to declare that I was an Australian citizen and provide details of my undergrad degree at UNSW. I can't recall anything about residency (was living in the UK at the time). My degree is full fee-paying, however - it might be different if you are looking to do it through HECS...
