Hi everyone,

Where do you go for your baby's vaccinations, and how much do you pay?
Our medical insurance does not cover vaccinations, and last time I ended up paying 400AED for one injection!
It kills me when I think they're free back home!

Would you go to the public hospitals here?
any suggestions/recommendations would be appreciated.
TIA

AmyAus82, very helpful, thanks. I am sometimes frightened from private doctors too, some are extremely careless, all they care about is $$$, but not your health. There are a few diamonds but hard to find.

yes i would like to investigate the correct use and limits of the health card but there is no information available hence i really appreciate all your posts, very useful ones. after being on international medical insurances for so long i realized it may be just the hype, and actually a lot seems to be available for much cheaper. so i would love to know more about the government system. keep your helpful posts coming, please share your experience if you are using the government health card, where did they accept it, for what.

i looked into this i think it depends on where u live wether they will issue u one there or not. the cards will be issued wherever doesit I think ,but you are supposed to go to your local clinic for health visits, we actually belong to the khavaneej clinic, only my DD goes to al Badaa (long story) yes, you want the local card, you can only use it in Dubai though, each Emirate has its own. You cant get the local to Dubai one unless your residency is in Dubai. edited by Purple on 20/08/2011

To my (somewhat dated) information, there are two kind of health cards: one that is issued by the UAE Federal Ministry of Health and one by the (local) Ministry of Health. The card issued at the local MoH is much more useful. Worthwhile investigating...

thanks purple. al badaa is behind shangri-la, on the road parallel to SZR but behind the high-rise row, towards satwa. the hospital that gives the health card is al baraha in deira. I go to al Badaa with my daughter and we got our maids health card there less then a year ago. (Also got mine and kids there, but that was longer ago) Did they stop then? edit to add: Actually, I didnt make mine and kids there, but I renewed them there, maids I definatly made there. Took 5 minutes. edited by Purple on 20/08/2011

they usually tell you before each treatment if something costs money (like a certain medication or whathaveyou). Al badaa clinic is where you make the health card so how can they say they dont accept them? Sounds very strange. Are you sure you have the correct one? I was in Al wasl for over a month and we paid about 5k, would have been more like 50-500k in a private hospital, prices have gone up since then, but its still way more affordable then private. The healthcard doesnt make treatments free, just alot cheaper, but all the vaccines that kids MUST have are free, just a few optional ones are charged for, but not very expensive. I believe for locals its different, the prices have gone up in the last year, but again, still cheaper then private unless you have insurance that covers you. edited by Purple on 20/08/2011

thank you. i went to al badaa clinic which is listed on that page, 2 weeks ago. they said health card is not accepted there. hence my confusion. i also had an ex colleague who was charged for like 8000 aed in al wasl when her 1.5 year old needed hospitalization. not sure about the particulars of the case. would be so nice to be clear about what is health card good for. i asked the health card counter at al baraka hospital and even they could not explain.
