Whilst its good to know that this recommendation is, in your opinion (and spongemonkeys!) good at his job, I would argue that if his bedside manner isn't correct, he is only doing a half job. Yes, of course you want the technical expertise, but you also need to be able to liaise and communicate with him, its part of his role, and if he can't do that, then he ISN'T doing his job! I left a vet here a few years ago for exactly the same reason! I'm sorry I know nothing about braces or orthodontists, but IMHO you are absolutely right to be seeking someone else. In an ideal situation then yes that would be great! Would rather have someone who knew what they were doing though even IF they have no bedside manner rather than some charmer who is a quack! :-P

And you would likely find the same in reverse.

Spongemonkey: Yep you're spot on! edited by Trigg Beach on 09/10/2011 :D He is actually a very good ortho! I could tell, I have no isue with his expertise...have family in the dental industry and he comes recommended...I just hate giving my money to such an a*******! And I wish I could find an ortho who is prepared to work with the braces she has. I am returning home at the end of this month for her final appointment - so I will have much to say to our Orthodontist that put braces on 2 months prior to us moving!! Arghhhhhhh I think you will find that most orthos here do NOT want to work with what others have started. Have heard this before. It is not uncommon. It is like going to a hairdresser with foils in your hair for highlights and asking someone else to wash it out and finish it! :D

I was told that my son needs braces within the next 6 months. His dentist in the US told us not to get braces now because whichever dentist we see over here will probably remove them. I guess they have lots of different braces and they may not know her system. I obviously wouldn't go back to that dentist but you might find that other dentists might recommend the same. Removing them and putting on their own system.

I second Dr. Michaels clinic. Very professional and offer comperhensive services. They did a great job with my teeth - it was not cheap, but well worth it. Oh - and I am a nervious patient, but they really changed it.

My DH had braces put on in Australia in June and we moved here in August. I had hoped to find an Ortho here and organise for a handover from the Orthodontist we were seeing in Oz, and he was more than happy to send the x-rays, models and brief case history. The Orthodoontist we were referred to here in Dubai was possibly the rudest professional I have ever met. He didn't look at us when we went into his surgery, just motioned for us to sit down. No introductions. Saw that my DH had come along to the appointment and complained that "the whole family had to come". He proceeded to make accusations about the work done by the Australian Orthodontist, wouldn't listen to a brief history on what she had previously had done and seemed to doubt what information I was able to give him. My husband said to him that we were at the appointment to decide if we wanted to go with this particular Orthodontist and he replied that he would decide if he was going to take that case...not us! Anyway, he is meant to be very good and maybe I could put up with the horrendous bedside manner but he refuses to work on the braces she has and wants to remove them all and replace the braces...you should have seen my 12 year olds face! So any recommendations would be really appreciated. I think I know who this is........name begins with D?

I was recommended Dr Michaels dental surgery in Umm Suquiem when my brace snapped recently. I saw Dr Eva, who was brilliant. They saw me on the same day I called them and couldn't have been more helpful or professional. Price wise not too bad either. Good luck. It sounds as though your experience was awful, you definitley won't get treated like that by Dr Eva, she was so patient and kind.
