I need several yards of raw silk to have curtains made to match blinds I already have, but I just can't face the whole parking nightmare in Bur Dubai. Satwa will be a last option if I can't find anything else but does anyone know of a store down this end of town? I'm looking for off-white silk with chocolate brown embroidery on it as the blinds are chocolate brown.

Hi, I am a Canadian/Australian who will be visiting Dubai for a very short time on my way to Africa safari. I only have Friday morning available and wanted to go to a patchwork fabric shop (one of my passions, collecting fabric from all around the world for my projects!). The only one I could find on a google search is closed Fridays. Any suggestions? I am looking specifically for quilting cottons, not general dress fabric shops. And if you have some store suggestions, what would be the easiest way to get there from the Sheraton? I read your info below re the 'fabric area', what is there? Thank you! (PS - I am also doing a Dubai tour, so not just going shopping TEE HEE!).

As I've never been in any fabric shops in Dubai I'm not sure if this is what you're looking for but there is a fabric shop in Oasis Centre, I think it's near Diaso. It might only sell dress fabrics though!

Brilliant - I totally didn't think of the Metro! Thanks!

Hi DC, I can't think of anywhere in New Dubai where you might find this, but have you thought of catching the new green line metro to Bur Dubai? I did this last week and it was perfect. You need Al Fahidi station and it is literally on the corner of the fabric area so not far to walk at all and it avoids the parking nightmare if you park at one of the stations on the red line that doesn't require you to pay for parking.
