why are porcine references automatically censored to astericks?

i noticed these are sometimes/sometimes not bleeped on TV too

totally respect those who choose not to partake of the porcine flesh (or any flesh, for that matter) for whatever reason, but ... c'mon ... the very utterance is a profanity?

I remember they played the Simpson's Movie once on FoxMovies (I think it was) and every part with the *** was cut out which kinda kills the plot but I sorta chuckled that it had been so edited

From my understanding, eating pork is haram in Islam but the actual animal is not considered sinful although it is considered filthy. Muslims are instructed not to eat pork but mistreating **** is not allowed.

And if you go into Spinneys it actually says "P O R K shop for non-Muslim" so I'm not really sure where the line is drawn.

I bought a packet of plastic toy farm animals a while ago and it had a mummy *** and all the little ***lets in it still. They must have slipped through illegally!

moonbean: I am aware that it's a 'big NO NO'. I get that. What I don't get is why the name of an animal would be considered profane. I first caught some of the TV censoring on the Food Network ... but was really puzzled when watching Fatafeat (the Arabic food channel which often airs programs in English) and noting that sometimes the reference was censored there, and sometimes not. Huh?! dally: I saw that too and am with you in failing to grasp the logic. I was hoping someone here might enlighten me. Sue62: I appreciate your suggestion and I will get there one of these days, but I am not completely ignorant of the teachings of Islam and am certainly aware that there is more to the faith than not eating pork. My query was not about the teachings of Islam, but specifically why the word *** is censored. Dietary restrictions -- no matter their origin -- are one thing, condemning the mere name of an animal is another. I have asked a couple of Muslim friends about this and they all have pretty much the same reply, which is to roll their eyes and say, 'who knows?!' I simply thought someone here might be able to tell me why the word is treated as a profanity. It's just idle curiosity on my part.

Highly recommended for people new to the region.

Biggest laugh I had in ages was a few weeks ago watching master chef australia final, one of the contestants did a trio of p**k, he could prepare it, cook it and the judges could eat it but the actual word was bleeped out for the whole episode. Just can't understand the logic, if they'd banned the episode or all references to his dishes that I could understand to a certain extent, but it defeated the object just bleeping out the word.

I may be wrong but as far as as I am aware p0rk and p1gs are a big NO NO in Islam. From what I remember they view the animal as filthy and full of sin. As for TV it depends on what package or channel you watch. If you watch show time or osn channels than not a lot is censored there. But when you watch local channels then yeah a lot more then chopped! It's the same as some of the magazines/ newspapers are censored if they have pictures that 'they' feel is against the religious beliefs or inappropriate. Like I said I maybe wrong, but that is how I understand it
