Hello I live in Edinburgh (trying to get to DXB) the German Market is great and plenty for the kids. Also the National Museum has just opened it's great lots of things to see. There should be a good santa Claus to see but can't think where. Gorgie farm is better than Edinburgh zoo but might not be open in winter. Enjoy it's an amazing city in winter Finally I find another fan of Gorgie Farm! I loved that place when I lived in EDI, love the fact you can 'walk a sheep for a pound'!

Biggar is just outsite Edinburgh so easy toget to if you have a car. I just remembered about Almond Valley Heritage Park too although it would obviously depend on the weather. This is in Livingstone which is just outside Edinburgh too. Its great in the summer (its a park, museum, kids can get close to the animals, ducks roaming around, trampolines, undercover sand area etc but at christmas i believe they do xmas activities with santa etc. You can find them via google too,. happy hunting

Thanks saw that one, we have done the very steep hill zoo :) and the aquarium ( which was average at best) sorry! I've also done the castle which is good but my little one's would lose any interest after 10 mins walking around :( Are there any Xmas things going on? Father Xmas anywhere? Childrens Xmas Shows? Carol singing ect? Any hidden gems of place to go ? My lo's will be 12 months and 4 years if that helps at all. I really don't want to be stuck in the house for days with the mil ;) There will be all of this, there are just not a lot of details released in Aug about it except the Xmas shows. The details for those should be out or coming out very soon. Don't worry about Santa, he will be so easy to find in Edinburgh. I too will be having a Scottish Christmas, am so excited already.....117 days until I go home

Oh Thanks ladies, great info MM I'll look that up sounds good, I'm surprized at the lack of things to do, hoping there might be some snow if so is there anywhere you can hire/buy sledges? Fairground and Ice Rink sound good and I'll check online nearer the time for Santa if not I guess it will be Wafi here before we go.

Hi, if its raining (which is most likely will be once or twice!) you could take them to Monkey Bizness which is a soft play area suitable for both your kids ages. Its in fountainbridge, Edingburgh. Or what about the Singing Kettle? They usually do a Christmas show (i took my lo there last xmas and this summer when we were back home). If you google Singing kettle and go to their website it will tell u if they have a show in edinburgh. if i think of anything else i will let u know. Also, you will find santa claus in most department stores and garden centres and edinburgh always has a street parade for turning the lights on but not sure if that maybe past by the time you arrive. there is usually always a fairground/ outdoor ice rink etc in princes gardens

There is the Museum of Childhood.....lots of lovely old toys etc........but to be really honest, most babies and very small people really don't find sight seeing per se interesting. There should be at least one pantomine at a theatre tho.......apart from that, bracing walks and bribing your MIL to babysit whilst you hit Jenners would seem to be the best plan!
