Thanks Edna, good tip. For anyone interested, it is definitely behind the metro station just to the south of Mazaya centre. If you drive past it, turn right at the roundabout and then right again at the next one, pull in to the car park and walk through the alley next door to get to it. Opening times are 8am to 3pm. You can't pay extra to get the certificate instantly any more but you can go along and pick it up the next day. Alternatively they can courier it to you in 3 days and I think he said it costs 30AED.
The place by the metro station near the Mazaya Centre is actually the offices of MEFCO - HSBC's consumer finance arm. When you go there to collect your clearance letter, confirm that they've stamped it. If it's not stamped, the RTA won't accept it... DH had this problem last summer, which involved an extra trip to and from MEFCO just to get the damned thing stamped.
I finished paying the loan in September 2011... Do I still have to gomto the HSBC behind Mazaya center?
Not sure which branch you'd have to go to, but you do need to get a clearance letter even if you've finished paying off the loan.
Thanks Jenna, good to hear I'm not senile yet!
Shaks, yes basically you go along there and pay off any balance and request a certificate saying that the car is debt free. Normally you have to wait a couple of days to get the certificate but I think you can pay a few hundred dirhams to get it straight away. You then take the certificate along to the RTA when you're transferring the registration to the buyer.
Hi ladies. I'm in the process of selling my car and need to pay off the loan to HSBC. I did the same a couple of years ago and seem to remember I have to go to one particular branch on SZR, pay it off and get a certificate. I know it was behind a metro station and I think it was near to Mazaya Centre but I'm not sure if my memory is playing tricks on me! Has anyone done the same recently or know the exact location of the branch? Thanks in advance.
