We are a family of kiters and my little ones started to kite within the leg of their daddy as soon as were strong enough to hold his legs. I never was worried and if I am now, it's because of other kiters that don't have much in their head. I am much more worried when they are on the road here. Every sport is a potential danger, and the real danger is the way you practise the sport. Last friday, what happened is the most dangerous situation and a very rare one : from almost not that much wind to a very strong, gusty one (it went from 15 knots to 36knots average, and 58knots during gusts).

I really hope they get better soon.....but for the life of me I don't know why people do this sport, it is sooooo dangerous, this sort of thing is not unusual at all.... My husband does it every weekend, never worries me, every time he drives somewhere though, that's what worries me - its all relative.

Tiki Thanks for posting, I will tell my daughter. She was very distressed about the state of him and worried he may not have survived, at least I can tell her how he is, it does sound awful though. Hope he gets better soon.

Life is full of potential dangers. If we worried all the time about what might happen we'd never get out of bed in the morning.

If it's the one in Kite Beach (near Al Manara Road), his state was stable on Saturday. He has 5 broken vertebras, the left bone of the jaw broken (nose as well ?) and bleeding in the head. Might have also broken arms and legs, I'm not that sure. There was also an other accident due to the storm on an other beach, where the kiter was dragged and so has some injuries also. I don't know exactly his state, but sounded like it was ok. ouch...... will he be OK? - when you hear of vertebrae being broke n you always hope that they will be ok and it's not permanent.

We thought we saw a wind surfer out by the palm just as the storm started it was really scary - you worry for people who are not at home when a storm like that comes from no where !

Just wondering if any of you ladies know the poor chap who plunged out of the sky on his kite, hit a lamp-post and was knocked out yesterday afternoon in the storm? My daughter was at the beach with her friend when the storm hit and ran for cover to her car. As she sat there a poor guy on his kite got dragged across the road, plunged from the sky hitting the lamp-post just in front of her car. She went to his aid and said he was bleeding from his head and looked like he had broken his arms and legs. It has left her very upset. Of course this drew a huge crowd who tried to help him but it took ages for an ambulance to come. Does anyone know if he is OK?
