yep, the mattress goes on top of the sensor so thats fine, basically its just that the sensor pad has to be completely flat and stable to properly sense movement above it.

Hi Kiwispiers - quick question - assuming the cot has a wooden base - but the mattress has springs - it will still work right? Thanks

sorry that was a typo, should have said "spring" base, as in a flexible metal wire/net type base under the matress vs a rigid wooden one.

love the angelcare but since you have asked for cons -range not as good/battery life not as good as some other brands -the sensor mats will not work in a moses basket (too big to fit in and also can not work if it has a movable/rockable base), they will also not work properly in a cot with a ring base, it needs to have rigid wooden slats or a solid wooden base under the mattress. If I had known that in advance I would still have bought the angelcare, but would have bought a different cot. Ours we bought in NZ and does have the 2 mats, but we didn't end up using them (although I co-slept/room shared until he was 9 months anyway). Just last night I was reminded of how useful the temperature sensor is. I turned off the AC when drying my baby after his bath and forgot to turn it back on, realized when I saw the room had gone up to 26 an hour later. If the temp hits 29 an alarm goes off. This would alert you to broken AC and also possibly (god forbid) to a fire although obviously you should have a smoke detector in the room too.

Big fan of the Angel Care monitor too. We switched early on from Avent to Angel Care and I agree with all the other posts about the advantages of this monitor. We take ours when we travel too.

Hi, The angelcare monitor is great! We have been using ours since our daughter was born in 2009, first for her and then for our son. They both sleeped much better in their own beds, in their room even since they were just a couple of days old. We could let them sleep alone because we knew the alarm would sound if something happened. So, thanks to this monitor my kids learned to sleep through very early. We have been using the monitor for 3 yr now, and despite of a lot of traveling, and many drops on the floor, it is still perfectly working. The only thing I would add: we've bought ours in Germany, and it has two sensor mats, therefore can be used in large baby cots without errors. Our friends from UK have one with just one sensor mat, and they weren't that happy, as they had many false alarms. I don't know which one is available in Dubai, but I would recommend you to search for the one with 2 sensor mats. Hope this helps

This is the best purchase we have made. I have a great nights sleep knowing that an alarm will go off if anything happens to the little one and when I do wake up, I can just check the monitor to see the pendulum moving and know everything is fine and go back to sleep. We have had about 3 false alarms in the 4.5 months we have been using it. Wow, it gets your heart racing like anything and seeing me and my husband leap out the bed at record breaking speed must be quite something but all has been well and usually because DD has moved. I don't think many people know about this monitor yet, certainly my friends havnt heard of it. The night light is great to keep on in DDs room and the temp monitor is another plus for reassurance. Expensive but worth every single penny for peace of mind and a good nights sleep for mum! I was a complete worry wart before this monitor was in my life :) edited by tweet on 28/05/2012

Hi Mols, if you are speaking of this Angel Care Monitor http://www.angelcare-monitor.com/International/en/products/angelcare-monitor-AC401 then I yes, I would highly recommend it! Our LO grew so quickly and we had to move him into his room at 4 weeks. Just knowing that I could wake in the middle of the night and look at the handheld unit and see the little pendulum swinging was so worth it for me. When they are so little you wake up all the time checking on them and I never would have gotten any sleep if I had to go into his room each time. I've noticed that I'm also especially grateful for it now at 5 months, he loves to roll over onto his tummy and stay that way. With this monitor I don't have to worry about him doing that. The only issue I've had is that I've found the range isn't very good but to me that's a small price to pay for peace of mind. I should also had that we've had a few false alarms - where it doesn't sense movement and after 20 seconds the unit in the baby's room and the handheld unit both alarm. Each time we race frantically to our LO's room thankfully only to find that he's moved himself as far over in the crib as possible. A quick adjustment to his positioning fixes the situation. Not fun being woken up by the alarm but that's why you have it - just in case. Edited to add that the Angelcare has a great temperature monitor. Not only do you always know what the room temp is but you can set upper and lower limits so if the temp changes to out of those ranges, an alarm will sound on the handheld unit. I would definitely buy this again. The only reason I can think that more people don't have it is that they just don't know about it? I only heard about it because a friend of mine was using one, which had me start doing some research. There is also something similar but portable called the "Snuza Halo" that clips onto the baby's diaper for use in a bassinet, carseat, etc. Here's the link: http://www.amazon.com/Snuza-Halo-Baby-Movement-Monitor/dp/B002ITOC7S All the best of luck to you.
